In 1992, Bob Gorish, then 32, discovered he had cardiomyopathy during a routine blood donation. This degenerative heart condition led to 30 years of health issues. Initially treated with medication, his condition worsened, requiring a defibrillator implant in 2006. By 2010, genetic testing revealed he had a rare form called arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC). Bob's heart failure symptoms appeared by 2019. In June of that year, he was referred to Dr. Srinivas Dukkipati for an ablation for ventricular tachycardia and then Dr. Anuradha (Anu) Lala-Trindade (Lala), who prescribed Bob with a number of medications to help improve his heart function and symptoms. Dr. Lala also arranged for an assessment for heart transplant eligibility. In January 2020, he was assessed by Dr. Anelechi Anyanwu and was put on the heart transplant list. However, during a routine colonoscopy at Mount Sinai South Nassau in 2023, his heart went into ventricular tachycardia, necessitating an emergency hospital transfer. Following a serious decline in his condition, he was prioritized for a transplant. After 15 days, he received a new heart on September 20. The 10-hour surgery was successful, and Bob was discharged after three weeks, steadily recovering since! #WeFindAWay Read Bob's #PatientStory: https://mshs.co/3yc1CAR Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, MPH, MBA
