Housing near metro stations like Takoma Metro is critical in Washington, D.C., where the demand for transit-oriented, affordable housing continues to grow. The Washington Metropolitan Area needs an additional 320,000 housing units by 2030, with a significant focus on areas near public transportation, to ensure that residents have access to both housing and transit options. Takoma Metro is a mixed-use development located at the intersection of Takoma, DC, and Takoma Park, Maryland. The project features approximately 430-440 residential units, with 15% reserved for affordable housing. This development directly addresses the pressing need for more affordable housing near transit hubs. Affordable housing is a critical need in Washington, D.C., particularly in Wards 7 and 8, where 42% of residents face housing insecurity despite these areas making up only 24% of the city’s population, according to the D.C. Policy Center, Urban Institute, and Street Sense Media. Many families in these wards spend over half their income on housing, making affordable, quality living spaces essential. At Moya Design Partners, we are driven by our mission to create inclusive, sustainable, and authentic designs that allow communities to thrive. One example of this mission is The Bridge, a 112-unit affordable housing community near the Anacostia Metro Station. Completed in 2022, The Bridge provides eco-friendly, bright living spaces, retail areas, and a strong sense of community. Projects like this contribute to making quality housing accessible to all, while revitalizing underserved areas.
