Last Friday (Oct. 4), Muratec USA welcomed the next generation of #manufacturers to our Charlotte, NC, headquarters for activities in honor of National Manufacturing Day. Middle-school students from local robotics teams toured our facility, walked the shop floor, and learned firsthand about Muratec’s industrial automation role in various industries, as well as potential careers in textiles manufacturing, machine tools, logistics and automation, and manufacturing marketing. #TeamMuratec members, including Terry Bame, David Stalvey, Matthew Ward, Ken Brewer, Eric Simpson, Sopona Eason, Rickey Woodley, Tyler Ninassi, Tavia Harrell, MBA, SHRM-CP and Charles Wisniowski, spoke with the students and answered many insightful questions while other team members worked behind the scenes to make our young guests feel welcome. More about MFG Day: According to The Manufacturing Institute, as manufacturers seek to fill 4 million high-skill, high-tech, and high-paying jobs over the next decade, National Manufacturing Day encourages them to come together to address collective challenges and build excitement about manufacturing careers. At Muratec USA, we recognize the importance of inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in STEM fields—science, technology, engineering, and manufacturing. Muratec’s Proposals Manager Celeste Pressley, a former machinist, recently spoke to Girl Scouts Hornet’s Nest Council in Charlotte, NC, as part of a panel of women in STEM fields, including commercial construction, mobile app development, data analysis, nursing, and electrical engineering. Celeste talked to the scouts about metal cutting, process engineering, 3D printing, and programming robots and sensors at Muratec. Some of the girls expressed interest in fiber arts, so Celeste explained the history of NC machines and how the technology was first developed for weaving and knitting. While Celeste's parents encouraged her to pursue her interests in math and science, she was one of only two women in the technology and industrial arts management program at Berea College and the only female machinist among 20 at a former company. “I was one of two girls in my high school physics class. I took three years of drafting as an elective, and I took AP calculus,” Celeste said. “I remember being encouraged to pursue languages, art, teaching, and journalism. No one would have told a boy with my aptitude and interest to consider those careers.” By participating in opportunities like the STEM panel, Celeste hopes she can show girls and young women that there are so many career options available to them. “I want them to feel comfortable asking professionals questions about their careers and how they got where they are,” Celeste said. “I want them to know they don't have to give up everything girly to succeed in these fields.” #thanksforyourservice to the #nextgeneration Celeste. #MuratecMeansMore … #legacybuilding #stem #girlscouts #science #technology #engineering #manufacturing 

This year, as Murata Machinery USA celebrates its 50th anniversary and looks ahead to exhibiting at FABTECH Expo 2024, it’s worth reflecting on a pivotal Muratec moment: the 1989 acquisition of Wiedemann, the renowned pioneer of punch press technology. Wiedemann was founded in 1916 and in our lobby stands a monument to that history: its first punch press dating back to 1934.
