Health can't wait.

About us

Time matters. Faster access to care can save 10x more lives. Muso is a global health non-profit that is revolutionizing how quickly Community Health Workers (CHWs) provide access to care for sick children in Mali. In the areas where Muso operates, we’ve seen a 10x difference in child mortality and a 10x increase in patient access to care. As Muso grows, we’re reaching more patients, faster. To the best of our knowledge, Muso has achieved and maintained the lowest rate of child mortality in sub-Saharan Africa. We estimate the Muso system will enable Ministries of Health to provide universal health coverage at a cost of $24 per person, well within the range of health spending in sub-Saharan Africa and significantly lower than the WHO estimate of $60+ per person covered [1]. The Problem [2] 5,900,000 children died in 2015 before their fifth birthday 300,000 women did not survive pregnancy or childbirth 90% of Malian women do not access family planning 13x higher maternal mortality rate in Mali than in the US 59% of Malian women do not access basic prenatal care during pregnancy Muso Model A reactive model is not enough and early access to care is crucial to survival. The Muso Model is a community-led health system that includes three critical steps in reaching and treating patients faster, within hours of symptom onset: 1. Proactive Search: CHWs search for patients through door-to-door home visits to connect them with care early. 2. Doorstep Care: CHWs provide a package of life-saving health care services in the home. 3. Rapid Access Clinics: Muso removes point-of-care fees, builds infrastructure, and trains staff, so that government clinics can provide universal, early access to care. "Community health workers are doing huge feats of promotive, curative and preventive care. Their pivotal role in preventive health care and their unique rapport with communities can only be effective if they have the necessary resources, support, commodities and tools to serve their communities." Maximize your nonprofit funding — brand first, fundraising second. 💪🏽💛

MacKenzie Scott gave $17B to 2,300 nonprofits. How to get her attention? It may surprise you. Here are four ways: 1️⃣ 𝗗𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 “Stop searching for how to get funding from MacKenzie Scott,” says Joanne Sonenshine, who shared these tips. “There’s no trick to getting noticed aside from doing really great work that’s making a difference and has the potential to scale,” she continues on the Connective Impact blog. 2️⃣ 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 How will you know if you’re making a difference? It’s obvious: track your metrics and communicate your successes, Sonenshine advises. “Make sure this is buttoned up and simple. SUPER simple.” These first two tips mirror my advice: 𝘉𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦. Then, you can 𝘣𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦. ⤵ 3️⃣ 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀 Scott, her Yield Giving organization, and The Bridgespan Group (whom she hires to conduct diligence) also get recommendations from other donors. So “tell your existing donors that large, unrestricted funding would be catalytic... Make sure your donors know what is possible with $1M, $5M or $15M,” says Connective Impact. 4️⃣ 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝘂𝗽 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 Another no-brainer is to tell stories about your stakeholder successes via social media and a regular email marketing cadence. “If you have your website up to date with real impact metrics and results, and have a clearly articulated position and strategy, Scott will find you if she wants to,” Sonenshine concludes. So here lies the not-so-secret secret. After seeing a handful of our clients — like Muso, Food For Education, Justice Defenders, and Lwala Community Alliance — collectively win $30 million from Yield Giving, I can confidently say: To get the attention of MacKenzie Scott, be fundable and be findable. Brand first, funding second. In other words: Make waves. Donors will notice the ripples.
