On my publishing journey this year, the support from so many people has meant the world to me, and I’m so honored to have an endorsement from 100 Coaches Agency founder and the leading expert on coaching and leadership Marshall Goldsmith for my book, What Lights You Up? Marshall’s mission is simple. He wants to help successful people achieve positive, lasting change and behavior; for themselves, their people, and their teams. He wants to help make people’s lives better and so do I! I believe this so wholeheartedly that I have dedicated a significant part of my coaching practice (and now my new book), to helping people find #WhatLightsYouUp, and ultimately designing a career that they love. Being happy in your career and life matters, so I hope that the actionable steps in #WhatLightsYouUp will help show you the way to find fulfillment and lasting passion in their work. Thank you Marshall, for supporting this important mission and helping lead others to finding my book too! 📖 If you’re curious, and ready to discover #WhatLightsYouUp, you can find out more here: https://lnkd.in/es6Zqn3D

Has it been awhile since you’ve had to interview for a role? In this interview with Morgan Radford and Vicky Nguyen on NBC News Daily, I shared some of the top strategies from my new (now best-selling!) book, #WhatLightsYouUp? During the interview, Morgan asked: “What are the best tips for anyone who hasn’t interviewed in a long time?” Here’s my answer—and this is applicable to anyone who has or hasn’t interviewed recently: ✔️ Prepare ✔️ Use real-life examples ✔️ Do your research ✔️ Be enthusiastic and always send a thank you email immediately ✔️Make sure your social media presence is professional … and most importantly: PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! — Don’t miss this interview, especially if you’re rejoining the workforce or making a career pivot and just starting the interview process. It was so fun to to talk to NBC News and start to share #WhatLightsYouUp with the world! Thank you again @nbcnews for having me. ➡️ Go to maryolsonmenzel.com to order your copy and get started today!

I absolutely love that Deborah S. Marquardt asked this during a recent interview with me… “When a reader finishes What Lights You Up?, what do you hope they will think / say / or do?” I love this question, because I put a lot of thought into this as I was writing. My answer: I hope this book inspires people to actually follow their dreams. To follow a life that will give them contentment and joy at the end of their day. Whatever that is, I hope it leads you to whatever it is that you always wanted to do in your career and your life. It may seem simple, but it is so powerful. 🎬 Watch the full interview to learn how this book is different from other career guides. ➡️ Learn more about #WhatLightsYouUp and pre-order your copy here: https://lnkd.in/exUvYyPJ

Did you know, data shows that: Recruiters only look at your resume for an average of 6 seconds? During my recent interview on NBC News, Kate Snow and Zinhle E. were shocked to learn about this. So, they asked me: “How do you stand out?” My answer: Have a clear and concise resume that will catch people’s eye. And then….You have to tell the story of your career in a way that draws people in. But, what if you’re not sure how to do that? My advice: ✔️ First and foremost, be honest and authentic ✔️ Bring out your personality and real life experience in your narrative ✔️Explain why you took the steps you did and how you did it Plus, a little trick I like to share if you’re still not sure: Practice with your narrative with family and friends! Ask them: “What is it that I’m doing when you see me at my best and how can I explain that in an interview?” Just start there, and practice some more until you feel ready. — It was so much fun to be in the studio and to see #WhatLightsYouUp on the big screen. I am so excited to share a recent feature in Fast Company “How a morning ‘power hour’ can help you find your next job.” Whether you’re just casually browsing and quietly looking for a new job, on the hunt because you’ve recently been laid off, or you’re looking for a new career that you’re more passionate about, this strategy can work for you! While many people embark on their job search by only looking for job openings, a “morning power hour” can help you to become much more intentional, deliberate and thoughtful in your approach. ☕So, what is the ‘Morning Power Hour?’☕ It is the first hour of your day, when you sit down at your computer, have your first cup of coffee (or tea!) and log on to LinkedIn. During this hour, you could be looking at new job postings, of course. But the true magic starts to happen as you’re also looking at your curated news feed and reading about what the companies you admire (or may want to work for!) are doing, engaging with others posts, commenting on topics with your advice or experience. Essentially, staying up-to-date with everyone and everything in the industries that matter most to you. A successful job search is so much more than just looking for open roles, it’s engaging and utilizing the power of your network! If you use this strategy, and start to make it a part of your daily life, you can start to shift your search to find your “dream job,”instead of just the next job! — ➡️ Learn more about the #MorningPowerHour’ and how to implement it in the full article on @fastcompany https://bit.ly/3UnrO3l or in my new book, #WhatLightsYouUp! In this clip from my interview with Deborah S. Marquardt about my new book, #WhatLightsYouUp, she asks: “Is “Light” the same as Purpose?” My answer: LIGHT = the intersection of your purpose, your passion, what you’re good at and what you can make money doing. Your light is your “it factor” or “charisma.” When you tap into what gives joy, makes you happy, you will be more passionate about telling your story and be able to bring your own energy into the interview. She also asked, this bold question: “Can your light, your energy, your attitude help compensate for not having 100% of a skill set when looking for a new role?” My answer: Absolutely, yes. 🎬 Watch the full interview to learn how and why this “light” matters so much—for you and for your potential company. ➡️ Learn more about #WhatLightsYouUp and get your copy here: https://lnkd.in/exUvYyPJ

Are you overwhelmed looking at job postings and sending applications into space, not knowing if it is reaching a human being? A job search can be frustrating and daunting and I'm here to help. I had the pleasure of being interviewed last week on NBC News about why you should NOT just look for job openings if you’re looking for a new career path or job. Instead, I recommend you turn your job search upside down by first identifying your 3Ps: Prospects, Pivots, and Passions. This will allow you to be more intentional and strategic about who you want to work for and what you want to do. After you go through this process in my book and discover what lights you up, your goal is to be able to merge your skillset with your passion. (And make money, too!) This is just one of the many job search strategies I included in my book, #WhatLightsYouUp, which is now a national bestseller! Go to maryolsonmenzel.com to order your copy and get started today! P.S. Writing this book and doing this interview is an example of me following what lights me up. It was a dream come true for me to sit alongside my friend @TVkatesnow on the set and talk about my passions - helping others live their best lives in their careers! Thank you, Kate Snow, Zinhle E., and NBC News, for having me.

A successful, collaborative, motivated and happy team starts at the top, with leadership. A successful leader starts with being Human. In my practice and work with Melissa Hook Shahbazian we refer to this concept as Humane Leadership. A Humane Leader brings their whole self into work and models what it is to be a human being in all its complexity and imperfection. Only then can we all recognize and appreciate what we all have in common—being human. And, only then, can leaders bring the best out in their team. 📖 Learn more practical career advice and discover #WhatLightsYouUp here: https://lnkd.in/es6Zqn3D
