Suma develops technology with low-income people, people of color, adults with disability and other frontline communities Suma’s story begins with our former fiscal sponsor Verde, a frontline-led environmental nonprofit in NE Portland’s Cully Neighborhood, who launched a Suma program in 2019 to adapt its environmental justice work to technology’s growing impact on its communities and mission. In 2020 Suma spun off as an independent, frontline-led nonprofit that incorporates technology as the basis of its economic, racial and environmental justice programming. Come join us on October 10th at OMSI 1945 Southeast Water Avenue Portland, OR 97214 to learn more about Suma and network with the founder and like minded individuals. At suma, we know that frontline community members have concerns with their privacy on the internet. We aim to build trust with our community by being transparent about our security practices and demonstrating our commitment to maintaining a secure platform. We’ve recently made some security updates on the suma platform, completing key improvements identified during a security assessment with Deep Armor, an award-winning cyber security firm. These updates strengthened both our platform and admin portal. Partnering with an external security firm ensures we receive unbiased, expert evaluation of our systems, helping suma identify vulnerabilities that might be overlooked and ensuring that we are following best practices. Next, we’ll prepare for a Phase 2 assessment with Deep Armor, reaffirming our long-term commitment to app security. Stay tuned for more updates.

Thank you Better Bike Share Partnership for your support! Earlier this year Better Bike Share awarded us a grant to support micromobility options on the suma app along side our Farmers Market offerings. We were excited to share details about our collaborative offerings which aim to expand both clean mobility and access to local, fresh food to frontline communities. We're were grateful for the opportunity to share details about this work with them:

The Portland-based app, suma, offers frontline communities free rides and food vouchers. 🛵🥕🍅 “We want to give people access to transportation because that’s what they're asking for, but also let's incorporate what they want most, which is food,” says Jacqueline Gromley, suma’s communications driver. We’ve successfully joined the Lents International Farmers Market (Portland Farmers Market)! This past weekend was our second time being at the market. It’s been so nice to see different suma users come out to stretch their dollar with us! We’ve had the pleasure of connecting with both new and familiar faces, we’re excited to see our community continue to grow. We’re grateful to all of the supporters and sponsors from our crowdfund who helped make tabling a third market possible! The support is helping us empower frontline communities to use sustainable micromobility and to access fresh, local food.

A few weeks ago our Vendor Manager, Momoko Saunders, spoke at a Portland Bureau of Transportation's news release that announced the city’s commitment to a long-term e-scooter program. The program aims to make micromobility more reliable, accessible, and sustainable.  Momoko shared: "Suma wants to thank the many community members and grassroots partners who have helped us design, launch and grow the suma platform, a bilingual commerce app that addresses the barriers preventing low-income people and other frontline community members from using their devices to access clean mobility and other essential goods and services. We're excited to be a key part of Portland's clean mobility team and look forward to growing our integration with Lime and to bringing Lyft e-scooters and e-bikes onto the platform." We’re excited to continue growing our platform, offering more options and discounts to enhance micromobility access to frontline communities. https://lnkd.in/epR6KzTh
