Philadelphia Chapter of the National African American Insurance Association. The Time is Now!
About us
The National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) was organized to create a network among minorities who are employed by insurance-related organizations or self-employed in the insurance industry. Pooling this wealth of talent contributes to the growth of the association and its members through sharing of professional experience, knowledge, and information. NAAIA will attempt, on a continuous basis, to promote professionalism in a manner that will lead to industry recognition and future career opportunities. NAAIA shall coordinate the national efforts of the African-American insurance organizations and professionals. NAAIA founded its Philadelphia Chapter in 2021, with a mission of creating a network of insurance professionals within the Greater Philadelphia area(Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Southern New Jersey) to foster career and business opportunities. As a trade association, the Chapter’s membership includes executives, agents, brokers, attorneys, underwriters, and other professionals in insurance-related fields who either work or live in the Greater Philadelphia area. Today, our focus is on promoting the insurance industry through a variety of educational, civic, and social activities that support career advancement and business development within the communities comprising the geographical area we serve.

In a world that does not always uplift, protect, see and hear Black and Brown people it is healing to be in rooms where we can be our authentic selves and truly accepted. NAAIA - National African American Insurance Association consistently creates these safe and needed spaces! Shout out to Omari Aarons-Martin, MDiv and Jephtha J. Snow (VanDunk) their team and the planning committee! The 2024 Annual Conference was four days of talented and knowledgeable speakers, insightful workshops, and an abundance of networking opportunities. Munich Re sponsored 14 employees at this year’s conference and I couldn’t be more thankful! The time with my colleagues from across the US and insurance industry professionals is a blessing. With so many gems it’s hard to fully capture everything I took away but my spirit is truly happy. My favorite quote from this year is “Success leaves clues”. Thank you to everyone for showing up and showing out! I brought all the clues home with me. I can’t wait to welcome everyone to the city of brotherly love in 2025! NAAIA Philadelphia is ready!

What an incredible experience it was to attend the NAAIA - National African American Insurance Association annual conference in New Orleans this past week! The sessions we attended were not only informative but also eye-opening, especially those focused on the future of the industry. From discussing the impact of Generative AI on our work to diving deep into Reinsurance, the learning opportunities were invaluable. It was a privilege to hear from thought leaders and engage in discussions that will shape the direction of our industry. A special shoutout to my colleagues from Travelers for showing up in full force! It was great to connect with peers not only from our own organization but also with others who share the same dedication to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the insurance industry. I also want to highlight NAAIA NY - National African American Insurance Association - New York Tri-State and NAAIA Philadelphia for representing so strongly at the conference—you all made a huge impact! I am beyond excited that my own chapter, NAAIA Philadelphia will be hosting next year’s conference! I can’t wait to welcome everyone and continue building on the momentum we’ve created this year. Let’s make 2025 even more impactful! “It’s time. Let’s go!” 💫 #NAAIA #DEI #InsuranceIndustry #Networking #TravelersInsurance #naaiaphiladelphia #NAAIANYC #NAAIAConference #Leadership #MoreToCome #naaiainnola #naaia2024 #TRVEmployee #betterundertheumbrella

During slavery, benevolent societies were formed by the enslaved as a way to care for the sick and bury the dead with dignity. On April 17, 1787, Richard Allen and Absalom Jones formed the Free African Society in #Philadelphia to provide mutual aid and self-help. It was the forerunner of the first insurance company organized and owned by Blacks in the United States, the African Insurance Company. Organized in 1810 in #Philadelphia, the African Insurance Company lasted only three years, but the early model was adopted by many successful Black-owned insurance companies in the post-Civil War era. Juneteenth marks the day, June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers announced the end of the Civil War and the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas. It is a symbol of freedom and progress. The success of Black-owned insurance companies in the late 19th and early 20th centuries continued the freedom celebrated on Juneteenth, moving from physical freedom to economic empowerment and financial autonomy. Considering the origins of Black insurance in the United States, it is only fitting that The Black Friday Network/Ako Insurance Consulting host our next Black Friday event in #Philadelphia in collaboration with the NAAIA Philadelphia. By celebrating in #Philadelphia, we honor the city's historical significance in the fight for Black economic independence and the enduring legacy of Black entrepreneurship. By partnering with NAAIA, we build solidarity in the local marketplace to champion the creation of equitable opportunities across the insurance industry, particularly the distribution channel. Agents, Brokers, and Agency Owners of Color join us for direct access to capital, capacity, and consultative resources and an opportunity to network with other Agents, Brokers, and Agency Owners of Color! Underwriters, Actuaries, Claims Adjusters, Defense Attornies, HR Professionals, Risk Managers, and every insurance professional in between, we are calling you too! Join us as we do the work to diversify the future of the insurance industry! 📆: Friday, August 9, 2024 🕘: 9:00 am TO 5:30 pm EST Registration is OPEN! https://lnkd.in/eYQb3nCu Stay tuned as we announce more #BlackFriday - #Philadelphia details! #insurance #partnerships #insuranceindustry #naaiaphiladelphia #insuranceagents #naaianow #insuranceprofessionals #blackinsurancehistory
