About us

About 4-H: In 4-H, we believe in the power of young people. We see that every child has valuable strengths and real influence to improve the world around us. We are America’s largest youth development organization—empowering nearly six million young people across the U.S. with the skills to lead for a lifetime. The 4-H Experience: 4-H is delivered by Cooperative Extension—a community of more than 100 public universities across the nation that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. Kids complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture and citizenship, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. This 4-H experiences grows young people who are two times more likely to make healthy decisions; two times more likely to pursue STEM opportunities outside of school; and four times more likely to contribute to their communities. Kids experience 4-H in every county and parish in the country—through in-school and afterschool programs, school and community Clubs, and 4-H camps. National 4-H Council is the private sector, non-profit partner of the Cooperative Extension System and 4-H National Headquarters located at the National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA) within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The 4-H LinkedIn page is maintained by National 4-H Council. 4-H is the youth development program of our nation's Cooperative Extension System and USDA. ✨"For as long as I can remember, 4-H has been a huge part of my life. From animal projects to archery, it's shaped who I am and what I want to be. At camp, I learned to care for and ride horses 🐎, sparking my love for animals. Now, I'm off to college to major in Animal Studies and one day, become a zoo keeper! 4-H also nurtured my passion for archery. Even when I struck out trying out for the school team, 4-H offered a welcoming space to learn and improve. Fast forward to today, I'm the Older Boys' Top Archer at county camp and aiming to shoot for my college archery team! Without 4-H, my path would be different. It showed me my passions and gave me the support to chase them. I am very thankful to be a 4-Her." 🍀 –Carter, WV 4-H'er #Thisis4H

I was excited to see our nation’s future leaders gather in DC last week for National 4-H Council's True Leaders in Equity Institute (TLEI)! Their energy and passion are truly inspiring and give me immense hope for the future. These changemakers are creating opportunities for all youth, making our communities better places to live, work, play, and collaborate with one another. I was honored to be with them.    We believe in youth and adults working in partnership to leverage the unique strengths that they bring to their communities. TLEI challenges them to collaborate to ideate an equity-related project to grow 4-H programs in their own backyards. This means they take home more than just a swag bag and memories; our cohorts leave TLEI with actionable Lead to Change projects that they'll champion in their 4-H clubs across the country. If you are a youth leader or 4-H educator who attended this year's TLEI, I'd love to hear more about your experience!

✨"4-H isn't just a club, it's my life! From the people to the projects, it's shaped me into who I am today. For me, Camp G.R.I.T. was a game-changer. Just 5 days, but packed with more learning and fun than the whole year combined! This summer, I'm back for year 4, and returning as a counselor for the 2nd year! As a counselor, I strive to be a role model, making camp amazing for everyone. It's a responsibility I take seriously. Last summer, I attended 3 camps, even a teen leadership one where I focused on civic engagement! Growth is a big part of 4-H. For 5 years, I've also been a cloverbud mentor, helping plan and lead meetings and seeing the younger kids grow is amazing!" 🍀 –Abby, AZ 4-H'er #Thisis4H

✨🐮 Erie County 4-H’er Allison Gabel discovered her passion for dairy much later than most, starting with a lease heifer project at the age of 12. But thanks to 4-H, that passion grew into something amazing! From competing in dairy bowl and judging to showing at the World Dairy Expo, 4-H opened doors and helped her develop a lifelong love for the industry. It even shaped her academic and career path! But 4-H goes beyond just cows! Over 13 years, she’s gained so much: responsibility, teamwork, public speaking, and more. These skills have helped her ace job interviews, college presentations, and become more professional. Now she’s a freshman at SUNY Cobleskill, double majoring in dairy production & management and agricultural business! This summer, she’s interning as a crop scout and raising market animals for her final year in 4-H. 🍀 #Thisis4H #DairyMonth
