#NatAllForum Session Highlight // 340B Exposed: The Hidden Financial Impact on Employers The 340B Drug Pricing Program is crucial for reducing drug costs for underserved populations by allowing certain healthcare providers to purchase drugs at discounted prices. However, many employers and purchasers are unaware of its impact on their healthcare costs. This lack of awareness can lead to misconceptions about the program's scope and benefits, hindering efforts to address the underlying issues related to drug pricing and access. Educating employers and purchasers about the 340B program's mechanics and its potential effects on overall healthcare expenses is essential. Greater understanding can foster more informed discussions and strategies to manage drug costs effectively and ensure that all stakeholders are working toward a fairer, more transparent healthcare system. The latest Pulse of the Purchaser survey from the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions reveals that innovative approaches, such as value-based formularies and tiered provider networks, are helping some employers achieve lower-than-average healthcare costs despite annual increases in premiums. AEHC and its members are proud to be among the participating organizations in this important survey, furthering their commitment to transparency and effective healthcare purchasing. The survey gathered insights from 188 employers across various sectors, revealing that employers utilizing these value-based strategies are seeing significant savings compared to those who rely on traditional rebate-driven models. Additionally, nearly half of employers feel that rising healthcare costs impact their competitiveness, with a growing interest in policy reforms focused on price transparency and fair pricing. The findings also show a shift in benefits priorities, with increasing attention to women’s health, mental health, and equitable access, alongside strategies to manage the costs of high-expense drugs. Employers are progressively adopting accountable vendor metrics and targeted cost mitigation strategies to ensure sustainable, quality care. https://lnkd.in/gHdDdC6W... #employers #pulseofthepurchaser #healthcarecosts #benefits

The situation has only worsened in recent years with the "gross to net bubble" larger than ever for many drugs. Kicking off at the Annual Forum in Arlington, VA, National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions has launched a PBM Hub, a pioneering initiative to foster collaboration, education, and innovation among employer/purchasers and the next generation of PBMs. There's no cost to attend the PBM Hub, but the session is only available to employers and purchasers, and National Alliance coalition members. Today we released the results of our annual Pulse of the Purchaser survey in conjunction with our member coalitions with 188 employers participating! The study covers a lot including concerns and approaches of employers to address the workforce environment, women’s health, obesity management/GLP-1s, mental health, equity, pharmaceutical drug and hospital prices, high-cost claims, fiduciary strategies, and potential health reforms. Interestingly, we found that employers who said they were more aggressive and innovative in their purchasing strategies noted that they experienced lower than average healthcare costs. https://lnkd.in/g8KizvPX #employers #pulseofthepurchaser #healthcarecosts #benefits
