Commemorating one year since the opening of Beyond Granite on the National Mall! Today we are looking back to honor the art, artists and stories told during the inaugural exhibition of Beyond Granite. One year ago today, our, widely acclaimed exhibition made its debut, asking the question: “What stories remain untold on the National Mall?” The Trust shares gratitude for the six dynamic art installations by six groundbreaking artists: vanessa german, Tiffany Chung, Derrick Adams, Paul Ramirez Jonas, Ashon Crawley and Wendy Red Star. We also extend thanks to our partners at the National Park Service and NCPC and for our curators at @monumentlab and for the generosity of the Mellon Foundation for making this watershed exhibit seen by 2 million visitors. Today, we celebrated the contributions of our National Capital Planning Commission summer interns! Michael Lopez, Justine Brandes, Sururah Abdulrazaq, and Daniel Leak presented their summer projects to their colleagues, had lunch with Executive Director Marcel Acosta and planner Brittney Drakeford, AICP, and capped the day with a staff ice cream social on our rooftop!
