As we approach Labor Day, it's fascinating to reflect on the rich history of Chicago, where the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) was founded. Labor Day, declared a national holiday in 1894, is rooted there. The first Monday in September honors the labor movement and workers' contributions across the nation. Chicago was the epicenter of this movement, especially during the Haymarket Riot of 1886, where thousands of workers bravely took to the streets to demand an eight-hour workday. The clashes between labor and police during that time were pivotal in shaping the labor rights we observe today.
