National CAPACD staff hosted the 2024 Community in the Capital (CITC) Fellowship retreat in Oakland, CA last week. 🏛️✨ This retreat is part of the five-month CITC policy advocacy fellowship, a program that increases the national presence and visibility of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) community-based organizations and emerging leaders, and bridges the gap between local and federal policy advocacy. This year’s fellows will help advance National CAPACD’s 2023-2024 Policy Action Agenda, taking their learnings to Washington DC to meet with policymakers and advocate for the needs of AA and NHPI communities. Over three days, participants engaged in storytelling and leadership development workshops, public policy sessions, and a neighborhood tour of Oakland’s vibrant Chinatown. The agenda included exploring personal identities, sharing stories through various media, and discussing experiences with public policy. #CITC2024 #PolicyAdvocacy #AANHPICommunityLeadership Thai Compliance Community Chinatown Community Development Center Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries Little Tokyo Service Center Pacific Island Knowledge 2 Action Resources (PIK2AR) Chhaya Community Development Corporation @Empowering Pacific Islander Communities (EPIC)

📢 National CAPACD Releases Policy Briefs on Issues Impacting Asian American Renters Following the FHFA’s announcement of tenant protections for renters in multifamily properties, we are releasing a series of policy briefs that highlight the rental crisis and the need for further action to protect Asian American renters. These briefs are based on interviews with staff from eighteen CBOs and national data, focusing on the experiences of Asian American renters post-COVID-19. 🏠 The briefs are organized by the following policy themes: ∙ Establishing a national floor for tenants’ rights ∙ Increasing funding for Section 8 & emergency rental assistance ∙ Ensuring language access for LEP renters ∙ Creating sustainable solutions for safe and affordable housing These briefs specifically focus on Asian American communities after consulting with our members. They have identified the need for a separate body of research that addresses the significant and unique housing needs of NHPI communities. We look forward to partnering with our NHPI-serving members on that future research effort. Access the policy briefs here: https://ow.ly/xy7450SCNBH #OurNeighborhoods #HousingEquity #AANHPIRenters
