Updates

  • October may be coming to a close, but breast cancer awareness doesn’t end here. Early detection saves lives, and one of the most powerful steps you can take for your health is scheduling your mammogram. Breast radiologist, Dr. Asha Bhatt, encourages you to take this time to prioritize yourself and encourage the women you love to do the same. Together, we can make a difference!    #BreastCancerAwareness #EarlyDetection #GetYourMammogram

  • Genetic testing can be a powerful tool for understanding your risk for certain cancers, including breast cancer. Knowing your genetic makeup can empower you to make informed choices about your health and screening options. Kim VanYsseldyk, a nurse practitioner, talks about the importance of genetic testing during the NCBC Breast Cancer Risk and Genetics Program Masterclass. Knowledge is strength, and it could make all the difference.  #PreventiveCare #BreastCancerAwareness #GeneticTesting

  • Breast surgeons came together from across the country to attend the NCBC Oncoplastic Surgery Masterclass in Atlantic City, NJ. This inspiring team came together to advance their skills, learn innovative oncoplastic techniques, and elevate the care they provide to breast cancer patients. Together, they’re shaping the future of breast surgery and making a lasting impact. For those breast surgeons that missed this opportunity we will have another class during our March conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

  • The National Consortium of Breast Center (NCBC) is excited about the research and advancement in technology that have contributed to many more cases of breast cancer being detected in the early stages. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), early detection of breast cancer plays a crucial role in survival rates. When breast cancer is detected early, the 5-year relative survival rate is an encouraging 99%. Early detection methods include monthly breast self-exams, regular clinical breast exams, and mammograms. Thandi Montgomery, now 41, shares her story of being diagnosed with stage 1b breast cancer three years ago. Thanks to early detection, Thandi was able to begin treatment promptly and continues to thrive today.

  • Male breast cancer is indeed a powerful, yet often overlooked, topic. The National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC) acknowledging male breast cancer survivors brings attention to this important issue. According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 in 726 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, showing that while rare, it is a very real concern. Clifford Armstead's testimony is undoubtedly inspiring. As a male breast cancer survivor, his journey sheds light on the emotional and physical challenges men face in navigating this diagnosis. “My wife has been my caregiver and has stood by my side during the twists and turns of my journey. I was told that I would not be here after November of 2020. I am still here and doing well. No matter what, a cancer diagnosis is not the end of the world. At the end of the day if something is abnormal, whether it is in your head or your big toe – be seen and get screened.” Clifford Armstead 8 Year Breast Cancer Survivor
