In a recent National Defense Industrial Association - (NDIA) / National Defense Magazine byline, University of Arizona’s Alex Craig argues that Congress must boost support for basic hypersonics research to achieve U.S. dominance in hypersonic technology. The nation faces a shortage of skilled professionals, despite significant investment in hypersonics research and development. Increased congressional backing for basic research and the academic institutions that perform it are crucial to keeping pace with global powers. Read the full piece here: https://lnkd.in/g5Y3_fNA

The Army ISR Task Force was proud to sponsor #technologies to be tested at Arcane Thunder 24, where the service got a chance to evaluate how new technologies could play a role in #multidomain #reconnaissance missions. The exercise involved multiple operations, the first being a “persistent stare” surveillance mission to locate “particular signals of interest” in the electromagnetic spectrum using high-altitude balloons and Kraus Hamdani Aerospace, Inc.’s K1000 drone, Lt. Col. Aaron Ritzema, commander of the 2nd Multi-Domain Effects Battalion, 1st Multi Domain Task Force, said. Read more from National Defense Magazine here ⬇ ⬇ (https://lnkd.in/e3CfNFfT)

Dr. William LaPlante, Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, offers thought-provoking commentary on the Defense Department’s acquisition process in a recent article for National Defense Magazine. The U.S. defense modernization process faces significant challenges due to rigid bureaucratic processes, often referred to as the “iron triangle.” Dr. LaPlante illustrates how Competitive Advantage Pathfinders (CAPs) are breaking out of the “iron triangle” of cost, schedule, and performance, by leveraging existing technologies and fostering cross-service collaboration. The CAPs initiative aims to address these delays in funding, requirements, and acquisition processes, thereby streamlining and accelerating the onboarding of new military capabilities. CAPs have successfully expedited projects like the Joint Fires Network and the Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM), significantly reducing timelines and improving capabilities. While CAPs are not a complete solution, they offer a promising approach to maintaining military superiority by upgrading and adapting existing systems more rapidly. This highlights innovative approaches to overcoming traditional barriers in Defense acquisition, showing practical examples of how modernization can be achieved more efficiently.
