Engineering Custom Robotics Solutions
About us
Engineering Custom Robotics Solutions The National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC) is an operating unit within Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute (RI), the world’s largest robotics research and development organization. NREC works closely with government and industry clients to develop and mature robotic technologies from concept to commercialization. A typical NREC project includes a rapid proof-of-concept demonstration followed by an in-depth development and testing phase that produces a robust prototype with intellectual property for licensing and commercialization. Throughout this process, NREC applies best practices for software development, system integration, and field testing.

From concept to commercialization, NREC develops custom robotics solutions. What started as an initial analysis study has grown to a full blown system preparing to launch into operation on the Mississippi River. Learn more in the video from our partners at Salas O'Brien, highlighting the talented engineering team behind Armor 1.
Salas O’Brien is developing Armor 1, an innovative collaboration between the US Army Corps of Engineers and the National Robotics Engineering Center that is set to transform flood protection along the Mississippi River. By modernizing the mat sinking process with advanced robotics, Armor 1 will enhance safety and efficiency in levee reinforcement. Watch the video to learn more about how this groundbreaking technology is shaping the future of infrastructure protection. #EngineeredForImpact #Robotics #Infrastructure

Great to have our partners from Salas O'Brien out at NREC to see ARMOR 1 in action! We're building something incredible together, revitalizing matsinking operations for the US Army Corps of Engineers to secure the banks of the Mississippi River.
Communicator and storyteller for one of the most respected engineering and technical services firms on the planet.
What an awesome way to start the week! I had the incredible opportunity to spend the last two days in Pittsburgh with the Salas O'Brien federal robotics team, capturing video footage of the world’s largest mobile robot ARMOR 1 and the team’s Intern Day event. My mind is absolutely blown at the scale and sheer impact of this project, and I have a new appreciation for the intellect, creativity, and passion of this amazing team and our partners at Carnegie Mellon University’s National Robotics Engineering Center. I can’t wait to see the magic Andres Ortiz, videographer and drone pilot extraordinaire, will work with the footage to help tell the story of this program and the minds behind it. It started from scratch with a concept to help USACE update their current matsinking process to protect the Mississippi River and the people, communities, and industry around it, and has become a labor of love. Read more about the project https://lnkd.in/e8fTwnnU and stay tuned for official videos soon! #EngineeredForImpact #Robotics #Resilience #Pittsburgh Dorothy Kirlew Jenna Delgado Job Bedford Harry Kleiser Jonathan Vernau Ted Keramidas Juan David Contreras
