  • 👋 Meet Kaid! Kaid was born at 24 weeks and 6 days gestation on May 22nd, weighing just 1 lb. 10 oz. and measuring 12 inches long. His mom shares his incredible journey: "...It was a terrifying moment, one I never expected to face so early in my pregnancy, but our medical team worked swiftly and skillfully to bring Kaid into this world safely." Kaid was born at Mercy Health - St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio. Shortly after he was born, his care team determined that he needed to be transferred to Nationwide Children's Hospital. Kaid's mom continues, "The team from Nationwide Children’s made the nearly two hour trip to Lima from Columbus where Kayla and Brenna were instrumental in stabilizing him for nearly 8 hours. We remember watching them work, feeling both fearful and hopeful, knowing that every moment was critical. Their tireless efforts to keep Kaid stable gave me hope, but we all knew that he needed to get to Columbus, where he could receive more advanced care. Initially, the plan was to transport Kaid by ambulance, but as the situation developed, it became clear that time was of the essence, and Kaid had to be flown to Columbus. The Transport Team worked quickly and carefully to ensure that Kaid made the journey safely, and we will forever be grateful for their professionalism and dedication. They played such a critical role in getting him to the care he desperately needed, and for that, we will always be thankful. Once Kaid arrived at Nationwide Children’s, he faced many challenges. There were days when the future seemed uncertain, but we always held on to the fact that the incredible care he received from Nationwide, starting from his early moments in Lima, was what allowed him to keep fighting." We are so excited to share that Kaid officially got his "Zoo day" and headed home with his parents in late September! Kaid - you are amazing! 📷 Check out these incredible photos Kaid's family shared from his journey - including his flight on Monarch 1 from Lima to Columbus and a visit before discharge from Transport team members, Brenna and Kayla! 🚁
