About us
The Native American Health Center is a non profit organization serving the California Bay Area Native Population and other under-served populations in the Bay Area. 2017 marked NAHC's 45th anniversary; as an organization, we have been serving our community since 1972. NAHC has worked at local, state, and federal levels to deliver resources and services for the urban Native community, including medical, dental, behavioral health, diabetes, obesity, substance abuse prevention, HIV/HCV care coordination and prevention. Native American Health Center’s mission is to provide comprehensive services to improve the health and well-being of American Indians, Alaska Natives, and residents of the surrounding communities, with respect for cultural and linguistic differences. NAHC serves the greater Bay Area and is open to everyone.

Today, #TeamNAHC is honoring #OrangeShirtDay. We know many of our staff and community members have experienced firsthand the impact of Federal Boarding School policies that sought to assimilate Native children and erase Native cultures. This day reminds us of the need for healing, recognition, and a shared commitment to never forgetting this painful chapter of history. By wearing orange, we show solidarity with survivors, those we've lost, and their families, and we acknowledge that #EveryChildMatters. #NeverForget

Happy California Native American Day! At NAHC, we celebrate Native peoples every day, but today is a special moment to honor our California Native relatives. We encourage everyone to spend time learning about and supporting the many diverse Native peoples that have cared for this land for thousands of years. From the Yurok in Northern California and the Ohlone in the Bay Area to the Miwok in the Central Valley and the Paiute in Southern California, these Tribes' traditional knowledge and practices have shaped the land now known as California. Today, and every day, we honor their strength, resiliency, and excellence! Visit native-land.ca to learn whose Native land you live on. #CaliforniaNativeAmericanDay #CaliforniaNatives #NativeLand

I am delighted to share the most recent Perinatal Baby Shower we had for our expecting and postpartum community members at Native American Health Center! This is our second successful baby shower of this year, with the incredible efforts of my team, Strong Families Home Visiting Program! I feel very honored to serve my community, Fruitvale Neighborhood, and be part of the journey of many of the expecting and postpartum mothers! Looking forward to continuing to work alongside the Perinatal Department and with my amazing team Strong Families.

This week, I had the opportunity to join my colleagues from Native American Health Center and many other Native health leaders at the 2024 California Urban Indian Health Conference. Throughout the event, we discussed topics that many UIHOs are currently navigating, from CalAIM's Enhanced Care Management program to workforce development to traditional healing. These conversations reminded me how essential it is for us to continue innovating and driving change to ensure Native communities receive the care and resources they deserve. At NAHC, I know the work we do is truly shaping the future of our healthcare, and I’m energized by the collaboration, passion, and dedication shared by everyone who attended the conference. Many thanks to the California Consortium for Urban Indian Health for creating this space to learn, share, and grow together as we collectively work to advance health equity and support the well-being of urban Native communities. #CommunityHealth #Native #UrbanNative #ValueCHCs

Today, marks the start of National Health Center Week, and we're excited to spotlight the importance of public health in housing! NAHC has always understood the critical role housing plays in the health of our members. That's why we committed to ensuring our new facility at 3050 International Blvd. would feature four floors of low cost family homes right in the heart of Oakland's Fruitvale Neighborhood. We're proud that our partner, Satellite Affordable Housing Associates, believed in our vision and is leading this project with us. Safe housing is key to the health of our community. 🧡🏠 #HousingIsHealthcare Learn more at www.NativeHealth.org and swipe through the images for a sneak peek of what the inside of our new building will look like! ➡️ #NationalHealthCenterWeek #CommunityHealth #HealthCenter #ValueCHCs

We are excited to share that Lee Leon will throw the first pitch for the Oakland Athletics' Native American Heritage Game! Lee has been a valued part of #TeamNAHC for over 24 years. Earlier this week, our Cultural Committee gathered to surprise Lee with a custom jersey and let him know he needed to start practicing his pitch. ⚾ Lee is one of the biggest A's fans we know, and he grew up going to games with his family. Today, Lee will throw the first pitch in memory of his grandfather, uncle, and all his relatives who taught him to love the game of baseball and helped get him to where he is today. 🧡 We can't wait to see you all there for this special moment —get your tickets at bit.ly/3QBRG9G. 🧢 #OaklandAs #Athletics #Oakland #NativeHeritageNight #MLB #Baseball #BayAreaNatives #Native #NativeAmerican #Community
