Terracotta is making a comeback in several major cities, and for good reasons! Archdaily takes a look at the Big Apple's terracotta revival. "New York City’s skyline tells the tale of the region’s dated relationship with architectural innovation and style. Among the many materials that cloak the city’s built environment, terracotta has a distinct significance. The clay-based material was a prominent feature in buildings from the late 1800s to the 1920s and, after a brief pause, is experiencing a resurgence with contemporary design. The revival pays homage to The Big Apple’s architectural heritage while leading a movement for sustainable materials in the city." - archdaily.com. #terracottafacade #architecturaltrends2024 #nbkterracotta #architecturalfacade

About us
NBK is well known for partnering with architects to create stunning, custom cladding. Its TERRART® products are showcased around the world. A Hunter Douglas company, NBK is a leading manufacturer of custom architectural terracotta tiles and baguettes that blend urban tradition and materials with the latest technology in ventilated façades. Current trends are terracotta in a vertical application – panels and baguette-fins (sunshades), precast, and the use of glazed terracotta in the USA. Since its founding in 1927, NBK® Architectural Terracotta has pursued progress through diversity of product, building a strong record of facade innovation and collaboration along the way. Traditional craft methods refined over decades—combined with cutting-edge manufacturing techniques—have led to high-performance facade panels that blend beautiful materials with the latest technology in ventilated rainscreen facades. NBK’s dedication to research and development inspires material engineers and master manufacturers to develop processes that constantly test new materials and glazes in combination with firing techniques and production methods ensuring tiles meet exacting project requirements for design and performance. Since joining the Hunter Douglas Group in 2007, NBK has invested heavily in manufacturing facilities and significantly increased its global capabilities. Today, architects increasingly specify NBK and its hallmark TERRART™ System, creating durable, high-performing facades for a wide range of projects around the world, from recladding and restoration of existing structures to construction of inspiring new building designs.

#projecthighlight UCPA Sport Station Grand Reims In addition to swimming pools, the UCPA Sport Station Grand Reims also offers an ice rink, a fitness area, wellness centers, and outdoor courts for squash and tennis, making it an attraction that draws many visitors. The most striking design feature is the large pleated roof – it forms the signature of the décor and refers to the identity of the building. The pleated structure is echoed on the light-colored terracotta tiles that clad the building vertically and are complemented and broken up by baguettes that are also vertically aligned in front of the window surfaces. #nbkterracotta #sportsarchitecture #architecturalfacade #terracottafacade

In keeping with the street’s historical context, 125 Deansgate is wrapped in a red skin of bespoke terracotta, echoing the region’s industrial heritage. The terracotta facade was built using NBK's prefabricated unitized system. The finished product was the outcome of a design process which explored the technical parameters of the material and construction process, supported and developed with Manchester city council and Historic England to ensure intricate details were retained. #archtecture #architecturefacade #terracottafacade #construction #architecturaldesign
