Hear from NEIWPCC Environmental Analysts Meg Modley and Erin Vennie-Vollrath about a new infestation of invasive #WaterChestnut in Dead Creek near Plattsburgh, New York. This was the first time water chestnut had been found on the New York shore of #LakeChamplain, prompting a coordinated response from the Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Thank you Mountain Lake PBS for the coverage! Modley serves as the LCBP Aquatic Invasive Species Management Coordinator, and Vennie-Vollrath is the NYSDEC Lake Champlain Basin Coordinator. #AquaticInvasiveSpecies #InvasivePlant #WaterQuality #EcosystemManagement
A newly discovered infestation of an invasive water chestnut has been discovered in Dead Creek, not far from Plattsburgh City Beach and Lake Champlain. Lake Champlain Basin Program and NYSDEC are working on a plan to tackle the infestation next summer, hoping it will keep the invasive plant from reaching City Beach and Lake Champlain.
