🚨 Takeaways from the NeLI Judge’s Panel! 🚨 In litigation, self-collection of evidence can be a double-edged sword. As Judge Goddard said, “The buck stops with the lawyer.” Whether it’s managing business disputes or navigating spoliation concerns, the panel’s insight on discovery misconduct was eye-opening. From failing to preserve emails to improper redaction, it’s clear: Discovery starts in the attorney's hands—don’t let it slip away. Mistakes can lead to costly sanctions and even loss of credibility in the courtroom. 💡 Key Takeaway: ESI (Electronically Stored Information) issues aren’t just technical—they’re strategic. Supervision and integrity are everything when handling digital evidence. 👉 Join the discussion: Did you attend the 10th Annual NeLI Conference? About us
The National eDiscovery Leadership Institute (NeLI) was formed in 2014 to provide high quality educational opportunities to judges and legal professionals specifically focused on electronically stored information (ESI) and to encourage cooperation between and among the bench and the bar. NeLI aims to provide the very best full day eDiscovery program offered anywhere in the world. NeLI brings top eDiscovery talent to this one-of-a-kind program where cutting edge issues are discussed. NeLI provides a nice mixture of issue spotting/over view and granular analysis so that attendees of all experience levels will benefit. In person attendees will leave this fun, energetic program with a bag of goodies and all attendees will leave with resources (e.g. sample documents, practical tips) that can be used in their practice. All net proceeds from NeLI are provided to the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and are used to further education in field of eDiscovery and technology.

"Humans are really average—we make mistakes all the time. In a recent case out of the Southern District of New York., the Court addressed a critical issue: how to allocate the costs of data security in eDiscovery. The government, as the receiving party, proposed robust security measures for sensitive medical data, but the producing party argued these were insufficient and sought additional protections. The Court ultimately ruled that these concerns were valid and ordered the government to implement the enhanced security measures at its own expense. This case underscores the growing importance of data security in eDiscovery and the need for clear cost allocation guidelines.
