Check out the latest Advisory Opinions where the Commission gave advice to public servants like you! 24-106A The Commission concluded that a Public Officer may receive tuition assistance from their agency for a master’s degree if agency approval is granted pursuant to their policy. Key considerations included that (1) those approving tuition assistance are not subordinates of the Public Officer, (2) the Public Officer demonstrated that the degree would improve expertise in their role, and (3) that receiving tuition assistance in this matter would not tend to influence a reasonable person in their position to depart from the faithful and impartial discharge of their public duties.” https://lnkd.in/gXa7ZwxH 24-103A The Commission concluded that a public employee serving as an admin for a public board who also volunteers for a nonprofit must publicly disclose this conflict of interest and abstaining from any involvement in matters of this nonprofit before the board. https://lnkd.in/gtujrSxC 24-105A & 24-125A The Commission also issued two cooling off opinions both deciding the facts presented did not violate the Ethics Law and the public employees were permitted to seek private employment.
