Our NESS SEA AmeriCorps team members launched a unique and environmentally conscious project by designing and painting a storm drain in front of NESS’s Stonington location, promoting clean water and environmental stewardship! This painted baleen whale artwork highlights the importance of keeping our waterways clean and protecting the environment for future generations, aligning directly with one of NESS’s four core values: stewardship. While members completed one storm drain mural last week, the project will continue beyond the day of service, with routine maintenance and the creation of additional artwork later in the year in select storm drain locations throughout Stonington Borough. We invite community members to experience the Storm Drain Art Project and follow the progress on social media and NESS’s website, where participants can also submit name suggestions for the painted whale in a "Name the Whale" Contest. Visit https://lnkd.in/etKdqizm to read the full press release, enter the "Name the Whale" Contest, and learn more about NESS SEA AmeriCorps' Storm Drain Art Project!

Last weekend, NESS was thrilled to host our 7th Annual Francis Pandolfi Porgy Fishing Tournament, and it turned out to be our largest and most exciting one yet! With 50 anglers, from 5 to 18 years old, we gathered for a day filled with family fun and friendly competition. Several porgy measured between 14-16 inches leading to record-breaking ties…The winners were ultimately decided by the weight of their catches! We can't wait to see what next year’s event will bring. THANK YOU for joining us and supporting another year of porgy fishing! Watch Hill Outfitters Captain Seth Sportfishing Shaffer's Marina Pmw Marine Repair Curtin Lures

On Wednesday, August 14th, Wilson, a member of the NESS Opti Race Team, will set out on a long-distance sail from New London to Stonington, CT in an Opti. Anyone familiar with sailing in Long Island Sound knows what an adventure this will be! He chose to take on this challenge for his 8th-grade service project to raise scholarship funds for the New England Science & Sailing Foundation. We're incredibly proud of Wilson and thrilled to see a NESS student who is so enthusiastic about sailing and willing to share this passion in support of others. It’s inspiring to see kids helping kids! Scholarship support through NESS's Fund A Student Scholarship Challenge enables students in our community to participate in NESS programs and have life-changing experiences on the water and in the classroom. Let’s help Wilson blow his goal out of the water and provide these experiences for kids in our community - please join us and make your gift today!
