New Harvest
Research Services
Trusted, independent, and empirically driven non-profit building the field of cellular agriculture
About us
We are spearheading the next agricultural revolution: Cellular Agriculture. Cellular agriculture allows us to make milk, eggs, meat, leather, fur, rhino horn, and any other animal products from cell cultures rather than from animals. Cellular agriculture is a groundbreaking field that is still not adequately supported by established funding channels. This is where New Harvest comes in: 1) We coordinate and catalyze funding into open cellular agriculture research, engaging external funding and partnerships as much as possible to grow the pool of people and institutions truly invested. Every piece of research we fund strategically contributes to building the field, so that the whole of research we fund is greater than the sum of its parts. Like all pioneering scientific organizations, we fund neglected work. 2) We convene the community that is building this field (scientists, academia, funders, industry, policy-makers, regulatory authorities, etc.), fostering collaboration and a divide-and-conquer attitude. 3) We inform stakeholders and the public at large (from mass media to teaching cellular agriculture in universities) to draw more funds, talent, and acceptance to the field. We are planting the seeds of a new bioeconomy by supporting pioneers in the emerging field of cellular agriculture.

Very cool to see this university-backed crowdfunded cultured meat project get off the ground in Italy! The project has the dual goal of increasing the awareness of local research in the field and raising funding to transition technologies developed in human cells into animal cell lines. The reception of this project has already been huge, gathering >200 supporters and reaching the first milestone of 10K euros in just two weeks! You can help this group work towards the more ambitious goal of reaching 40-100K to purchase a lab-scale bioreactor (the more funds, the larger!) to be in a position to demonstrate scale-up feasibility for their approach. Great stuff Alessandro Bertero! Give here: https://lnkd.in/eJBeA-68
We are pleased to announce that we have surpassed €15,000, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to all #383supporters! ❤️ Furthermore, we are honored to have obtained the attention of prominent Italian press such as Corriere Torino, La Repubblica, and Gambero Rosso . We are also delighted that the Michelin-starred chef Giorgio Locatelli has highlighted the importance and innovation of #cultivatedmeat. There are #36days remaining in our campaign, and we cannot pause until we achieve our next goal: the purchase of a #bioreactor that will help us to make the cultivated meat a scalable and cost-effective reality! We believe in you and your support! Let’s keep moving forward! 🚀 #cultivatedmeat #crowdfunding #bioreactor #sustainability #future Italiano: https://lnkd.in/dXyCdvDU English: https://lnkd.in/eJBeA-68

Applications for this very unique and exciting Machine Learning in Cellular Agriculture Residency are due Monday, July 22. Please share with anyone who might be interested!
📣 New opportunity for aspiring #cellularagriculture and #machinelearning researchers... This position is the first of its kind.... The Machine Learning in Cellular Agriculture Residency, a joint New Harvest & Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) research position. Pretty much all #artificialintelligence and #machinelearning research in cell ag is tied up in the private sector, save for our recent review paper. Sharing the breadth of opportunity that AI/ML offers our field is so important for us to move the field forward collaboratively and quickly. If you want to go a step further and help accelerate cell ag through AI do not miss this research opportunity!!!! 1 full year, fully funded, full-time position. Strong applicants will have a track record of engaging in research related to both the fields of machine learning and cellular agriculture. However, their strengths in one area may be stronger than the other. ***The position is an opportunity to strengthen skills in both areas*** We know this is a tough set of skills to find in one person! The project continues to be supported by Schmidt Futures, a philanthropic initiative founded by Eric and Wendy Schmidt. 🔬 A number of FEASTS partners were in attendance at the 2nd International Conference on Cellular Agriculture, hosted by Aarhus University, which is also a project partner. Two days of presentations covered technological challenges and solutions both at lab scale and with the view to scaling up production. Also addressed were topics of #sustainability, regulatory compliance, ethics and consumer perceptions. FEASTS Executive Director Dwayne Holmes, PhD and Ira van Eelen from RESPECTfarms, another project partner, took part in the panel held by the EIT Food Protein Diversification Think Tank devoted to scaling up cellular agriculture. The takeaway from the discussion is that the true challenge and at the same time opportunity lies in promoting transparency, embracing open science and making stakeholders such as farmers part of the conversation about cellular agriculture. ⚖ An inspiring keynote speech from Matthias Kaiser on ethics and value choices regarding #culturedmeat urged open communication and dialogue which would embrace the complexity of the topic and its many implications for the economy, society and environment. 🍽 🥘 Barbara Vad Andersen shared insights from a workshop and survey among kitchen professionals on acceptance of cell-based food which found that transparency about its properties along with safety and taste are the key to acceptance among this group. FEASTS is on a mission to deliver a comprehensive, unbiased knowledge base about cultured meat and seafood and their place in the #foodsystem with open science and stakeholder engagement as the guiding principles. We are working on addressing knowledge gaps and advancing the field of #cellularagriculture. It was a genuine pleasure to spend two days on the beautiful Aarhus campus and engage in many hours of fantastic conversations - once again thank you Aarhus University and Jette Feveile Young!
