Exciting news at the US Open—NYJTL scholar athletes Patrycja Filonik and Julia Ivanov are part of this year's ball crew! These dedicated Brooklyn high schoolers are now on the courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, right alongside the world’s top tennis players. Their hard work and dedication in both sports and academics through our Scholar Athlete Program are truly inspiring. As we plan to expand our program to Brooklyn's MatchPoint NYC Bensonhurst, they’re setting a stellar example for future young athletes. As summer programming comes to a close, NYJTL proudly reflects on our engagement in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and Summer Rising Program, enriching nearly 4,000 NYC youth in partnership with NYC Department of Youth & Community Development. Participants in the Summer Rising Program enjoyed a rich mix of academic enrichment, field trips, and outdoor activities, designed to support their growth and development. Meanwhile, our Long Island City offices welcomed 8 SYEP participants who gained hands-on experience and valuable skills across various departments like HR, Marketing, and Finance. Our team recently completed the Coach-Mentor Training program led by the U.S. Soccer Federation. Thank you to the Federation for an insightful session, and to Ginny Ehrlich of the USTA Foundation for facilitating this valuable connection! This training underscored the critical role of mentors in sports, highlighting strategies to build, strengthen, and sustain positive, long-lasting relationships. It also emphasized how effective mentorship can transform youth sports into a secure and inclusive environment. This year's Mayor Dinkins Cup, brought together 550 young athletes from public, private, and parochial schools across all five boroughs. The week-long tournament showcased incredible talent and concluded with an awards ceremony that distributed $140,000 in scholarships to 13 exceptional student-athletes. The event featured engaging activities like journaling, peer discussions, and tennis, with a talk by a special guest on overcoming substance misuse. DJ Rouzeau (NYJTL) and Robin Aviv (Generation S.O.S.) emphasized the importance of education and peer support in addressing mental health challenges. We were thrilled to participate in USTA Eastern’s AANHPI Tennis Festival at Cunningham Park, where over 1,300 families celebrated cultural heritage through tennis. The event showcased an exhibition match featuring Vania King and activities organized by the Asian American Pacific Islander Tennis Association.
