What does it take to navigate the challenges of rural life while ensuring the health of your children? Our team had the privilege of recently spending the day with Hauwa, a mother of 8 from Kano. Read our new photo blog to learn about her determination to get her son, Hamza, vaccinated. 🔗newincentives.org/hauwa

New Incentives provides small cash incentives to increase childhood vaccinations and cost-effectively save lives.
About us
As a GiveWell top charity, New Incentives is dedicated to doing the most good per dollar donated. We are a US-based NGO that provides small cash incentives to caregivers (totalling approximately US$11) to vaccinate their infants against deadly, yet preventable diseases. We operate in northern Nigeria – a region with one of the lowest childhood vaccination rates in the world. We are recruiting: https://new-incentives.breezy.hr/

Today is International Day for the Eradication of Poverty! The caregivers our program serves in northern Nigeria often survive on less than $2 per day. That means that our incentive of less than $1 per visit (for bringing babies to clinics for routine childhood vaccinations) can have an immediate impact on whether they can afford the transportation for the trip and other necessities. #EndPoverty

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is on the rise, with approximately 1M children under five dying from it every year. As this Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance video reveals, vaccination is a powerful tool for decreasing AMR rates and deaths because it reduces the antibiotic use associated with infections.
Vaccines are one of our best weapons against antimicrobial resistance by preventing infections - and the need for antibiotics - in the first place. Donors that invest in vaccines are helping the global fight against this silent pandemic that kills millions each year. #forourfuture #UNGA79

Caregivers are the center of our incentives program, but we also recognize the crucial role of clinic staff in providing routine immunizations and other health interventions. Our recent blog talks about incentives we will be giving to two staff per clinic per month to boost attendance at immunization sessions, improve data integrity, and enhance overall performance. With ~2.2M Nigerian children under five suffering from acute malnutrition—and ~.5M of them at 12X risk of death associated with severe wasting (per UNICEF)—New Incentives is focusing on a simple intervention that can improve child survival. As part of our package of program additions, we'll soon be rolling out mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) assessments for the fifth and sixth visits in the immunization schedule. Our program saves lives by increasing vaccination rates in Nigeria. To attract more caregivers and encourage them to come to every childhood vaccination visit, we recently added a bonus of ₦5,000 that is given upon completion of the immunization schedule (increasing the total incentives from ₦6,000 to ₦11,000). We're happy to share exciting news! New Incentives is introducing additions to our program, including a vaccination completion incentive for caregivers, monthly incentives for clinic staff, and malnutrition monitoring. Read more on our blog: https://lnkd.in/eCAm-rmw

@GiveWell.org recently published an update on their vaccine strategy. Some of the interventions they would like to explore further—such as improving outreach services, assisting in reducing supply shortages, and providing small cash incentives—are already part of New Incentives' program. We are excited to continue testing and iterating in these areas to make vaccination easier for the caregivers we serve. Read their blog post here: https://lnkd.in/euaQjEEb
