We are incredibly proud to amplify Zsakeba Henderson, MD FACOG, for being named the Excellence in Black Maternal Health Award 2024 recipient as part of the Black Maternal Health Conference and Training Institute hosted in Atlanta by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Inc. (BMMA). The award is named for Fleda Mask Jackson, Diane Rowley, and Vijaya Hogan, nationally recognized experts in maternal and child health. Among her extensive accomplishments and contributions to maternal health, Dr. Henderson is Senior Health Advisor at the National Institute for Children's Health Quality (NICHQ). Dr. Henderson's expertise in the critical issues facing women and birthing people and their infants is a tremendous asset to NICHQ and the field. Congratulations!
Throughout my career I have always been challenged by “tooting my own horn” or announcing or displaying my achievements. Many women leaders are reluctant to claim their achievements and communicate about their contributions. While humility is an honorable virtue, not sharing your accomplishments and achievements can impede your advancement in the workplace and limit future opportunities. If nobody knows what you are doing or have done, not only will you not be recognized for your contributions, you may also be looked over for promotions or new opportunities. While I need to make the effort and remind myself to fully claim what I have achieved, it is something I know is important to do to advance as a leader. This video was part of the Awards Banquet for the Black Mamas Matter Alliance Black Maternal Health Confernece. It is a reminder to me of what I have accomplished, and I am happy to share this achievement! #BMHC24 #BlackMamasMatter #BlackMaternalHealth #MaternalHeakth #InfantHealth #QualityImprovement Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Inc. National Child Health Day is observed every first Monday in October. Join the National Institute for Children's Health Quality (NICHQ) in sharing resources to help ensure children, mothers, birthing people, fathers, and families have access to the quality care, educational tools, and support needed to achieve optimal health – both physically and mentally. Improving mental health outcomes can support better health and well-being for children and families across the country. This webinar from NICHQ discusses strategies for improving access to maternal depression screenings and interventions: https://bit.ly/3ZUXHUt. Supporting young children’s social emotional development is just as important as supporting their cognitive capabilities and physical health. By working with families to support social emotional development, pediatric health professionals can set children up for a successful future. Read more from NICHQ: https://bit.ly/3Y3FRfI.
