#InTheNews: NICJR is excited about a prospective partnership with the City of Birmingham and their Office of Community Safety Initiatives to develop violence reduction strategies that focus on those at the highest risk of gun violence involvement. In a recent interview, NICJR Executive Director David Muhammad speaks about our data-driven approach to violence reduction, “We come in and work with the police department, with others who have incredible knowledge of what’s happening in the city and do a deep dive, both data analysis and qualitative data analysis to say what are the drivers of gun violence in the city of Birmingham.” Check out the full news clip and article here: https://lnkd.in/gAnG3SmZ

Experienced leader in the fields of gun violence reduction, partnership based policing and police-community trust building.
California Partnership for Safe Communities (CPSC) is proud to be partnering with the City and County of San Francisco, the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), the Street Violence Intervention Program, The National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR) and other organizations on the San Francisco Violence Reduction Initiative. Forthcoming evaluation findings indicate that this evidence-informed approach has helped significantly reduce violence in southeast San Francisco. VRI is also playing an important role in helping drive homicide down to record lows in San Francisco. Thank you to our partners, to the State of California's #CalVIP grant program and to the San Francisco Chronicle for a great article. https://lnkd.in/g3hsrqwj
Community Violence Intervention (CVI) programs are a crucial facet of Washington, D.C.’s public safety ecosystem. In his latest op-ed for The Appeal, our Executive Director David Muhammad details why the D.C. Police Union’s calls to defund these live-saving programs are misguided. “The structure, coordination, focus, and accountability of the violence intervention work in D.C. needs to improve. But that is not the fault of the CVI workers. That is the responsibility of the D.C. government. The District has yet to implement a citywide, coordinated, appropriately funded, and correctly managed violence reduction strategy. Now is the time to do so…A better-informed union would call for an increase in funding to CVI, not an end.” Read the full op-ed today: https://lnkd.in/gGGyrEKZ

We are proud to partner with American Institutes for Research on the evaluation of our Oakland NOAB program. Read more about the implementation study below and stay tuned for more NOAB highlights during Youth Justice Action Month this October! #YJAM2024 #YOUthAreWorthIt #Oakland #NOAB
By leveraging community supports through the board conference, partnerships with local organizations, and ongoing coaching, Oakland's Neighborhood Opportunity and Accountability Board (NOAB) is empowering youth to better meet their short-term and long-term goals and needs. #RestorativeJustice programs like these lay the foundation for a better tomorrow by re-framing partnerships between the justice system and communities. With support from the AIR Equity Initiative, we are partnering with the The National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR) to evaluate NOAB's program implementation and outcomes as they pertain to #YouthDevelopment, #CommunitySafety, and #JusticeReform.
