About us

The Outdoor Recreation Division aims to increase the over-all mental and physical well-being of New Mexicans through the power of outdoor recreation, enabling residents throughout the state to hold jobs that afford them dignity, joy, and stability. We strive to commit all residents to protecting their state's natural heritage - its lands and waters, its flora and fauna - and find a future on that path. We aim to parlay this commitment into long-term, sustainable investment, both in infrastructure and education. These are a few of the daily actions we take to achieve that ultimate, aspirational outcome. Our Core Values We measure success by our impacts in these five key areas: Sustainable Economic Development Conservation & Access Equity Education Health & Wellness Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed New Mexico’s Outdoor Recreation Division into law on April 2, 2019. At the time, our office joined a dozen other states committed to growing and championing the outdoor recreation economy, which we recognize as an immensely powerful engine to grow wealth and job opportunities in our state. Written into the law was the first-ever Outdoor Equity Fund, a grant intended to help disadvantaged youth get outside.
