Noll & Tam Architects’ work reflects a dedication to the particular people and places that make our projects unique. Christopher Noll and Janet Tam founded the firm in 1992 to establish a talented studio of architects that pursued the ideal of active community involvement and environmentally responsive design. Today, we've grown to more than 40 creative and energetic staff members, including 15+ LEED Accredited Professionals. We design distinct spaces that enhance the civic presence of municipal buildings and the academic experience for educational institutions. Our acclaimed work in the planning and design of libraries, community/recreational centers, civic centers, public safety buildings, and universities and community colleges facilities illustrates our commitment to the people and buildings that make for strong communities. Another win for the Los Altos Community Center! Congrats team!
We are honored to receive the SEAONC SEE Award of Merit for Best Small Project/Best Small Firm Project for the Los Altos Community Center, a rewarding project recently completed in collaboration with Noll & Tam Architects, Gonsalves & Stronck Construction Company, Inc., MIG, OMM, and Integral Mechanical. Exposed timber framing creates a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout the building. Glulam rafters and trusses, along with cedar trellises, and vast views of the beautifully landscaped courtyard add a biophilic connection for guests. Cantilevered steel columns are designed to bridge the many stepped roofs and to meet the more stringent seismic demands. This LEED Gold equivalent building is not only environmentally friendly but can also function as an emergency shelter, providing a safe space during times of need. Thank you to Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC) for organizing this great event and for recognizing Structural Engineering Excellence.

What better place to enjoy brain-shaped cookies than at Berkeley Neuroscience! Last week, we celebrated the grand opening of the UC Berkeley Warren Hall 2nd Floor Renovation with Neuroscience faculty, staff, and students, UC Capital Projects and JRG Construction staff, and campus luminaries. This project designed by Noll & Tam converted a previous IT space into dry labs, collaborative spaces, conference rooms, patient testing rooms, and a shop room. The ceremony featured a ribbon-cutting by Professor Ehud Isacoff and PhD student Alexis Pracar, and then we all enjoyed a marvelous buffet of neuroscience-themed snacks! & & & #NollandTam #Architects #UCBerkeley #WarrenHall #Neuroscience #Design #LabSpace

Urban Tilth Topping-Out Ceremony Great progress is being made on Urban Tilth’s North Richmond Farm! The white oak trusses, crafted by the Timber Framers Guild, were just installed, and the Noll & Tam design team participated in the topping-out ceremony on March 27 for the watershed workshop building, writing our wishes on the trusses and observing the traditional placement of the whetting bush on the highest point of the timber frame.
