It was our pleasure to host the final stop of the firm crawl, surrounded by energized young professionals who share our passion for architecture. Lowney Architecture’s COO, Anthony Cataldo, AIA, LEED AP and Oakland Design Director, Mark K. Donahue AIA, shared their thoughts on our current projects, the passion that drives our work, and our vision for the future. It was inspiring to see so many dedicated young professionals eager to contribute to the next generation of architects and designers. Congratulations to our trusted partner, EAH Housing, for being recognized by Affordable Housing Finance as one of the top three nonprofit affordable housing developers in the nation for 2023! We are proud to have collaborated with EAH Housing for many years, working together to bring density and dignity to communities in need. One of our most recent projects, the Kahului Civic Center, is set to provide affordable housing for generations to come. Strategically located next to Maui's largest shopping center, Queen Ka’ahumanu Mall, and along the Ka’ahumanu Transit Corridor, Lowney Architecture and EAH Housing were selected in 2023 to develop this site. The project includes 330 units across five levels over parking, designed in U- and L-shaped configurations to maximize views of Kahului Harbor. This LIHTC project, built in two phases, features generous amenity decks overlooking the ocean and focuses on larger 2- and 3-bedroom units to address the housing needs of Maui’s kama’aina families. We are excited to announce the grand opening of the Jefferson Elementary School District’s (JESD) new affordable housing complex, recently featured on CBS and NBC Bay Area! This project, initiated in 2019, delivers 56 units at 60% of the market rate, providing affordable housing for teachers and staff in Daly City just in time for the 2024-25 school year. This housing initiative represents a significant step in attracting and retaining top teaching talent in the Bay Area. It offers a secure, vibrant community equipped with green spaces, communal areas, and more. As living costs in the Bay Area continue to rise, this project ensures that our educators have the stability and support they deserve, empowering them to focus on their vital work—shaping the future. We're thrilled to announce the grand opening of Depot Community Apartments in Hayward, CA! On Friday, August 2nd, we celebrated the completion of this transformative project, which introduces 125 new affordable studio apartments to the Mt. Eden neighborhood. Designed to enhance the health, safety, and well-being of its residents, Depot Community Apartments offers permanent supportive housing for households earning below 60% of the area median income, with some units available at 20% AMI. Half of the apartments are dedicated to individuals with special needs, including those experiencing homelessness. Our community-focused amenities include a basketball court, BBQ area, courtyard, community garden, and dog park. Residents also benefit from on-site services provided by Abode, ensuring they receive the support they need.
