A critical but often overlooked aspect of domestic violence is financial abuse. #DVAM2024 The impact of economic abuse can be devastating. In the short term, it makes it difficult for survivors to meet basic needs like housing and food for themselves and their children. The Human Services Council of New York is joining with partners across the State to collectively ask the Governor to include a 7.8% investment inclusive of ALL State-contracted human services providers, using the existing cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) mechanism, in the 2025-26 Executive Budget Proposal. This investment will provide the necessary resources to make meaningful progress in addressing inflationary increases and raising wages for direct care and frontline workers - impacting over 800,000 human services workers and thousands of human services providers across New York.
