What's the latest in banking? #SBATraining - On Monday, October 21, the NCBA will host a free loan deferment and disaster loan training session over Zoom in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The session includes a Q&A opportunity, making it a valuable resource even if your operations weren’t directly affected by Hurricane Helene. #HurricaneHeleneUpdate - Hurricane Helene is now the U.S. mainland's second-deadliest storm since 1969's Hurricane Camille. Estimates of the total damage and economic loss to range from $225 billion to $250 billion. #FederalReserve - Federal Reserve Governor Michelle Bowman called for changes in how nonbanks are regulated, noting that banks are currently subject to a broader range of restrictions imposed by “regulatory requirements or the ‘soft’ power of supervision.” Find these stories and more in the #NCBankersBulletin -> https://lnkd.in/g49FEUwn

About us
Strong Banks, Strong Communities: The North Carolina Bankers Association (NCBA) brings together all categories of banking institutions that best represent the interests of our rapidly changing state. Proudly serving North Carolina’s banking industry since 1897, the NCBA is the professional trade organization providing advocacy, leadership and support for its dynamic membership base. Through its government relations activities, the Association communicates with the North Carolina General Assembly, the U.S. Congress and banking regulators on behalf of its member banks, savings institutions and trust companies. The NCBA also provides media relations support, educational and training programs, and regulatory and compliance assistance. As the second largest banking state in the nation, the NCBA actively promotes the professional and educational development of its members and affiliate members through events and conferences, including the upcoming American Mortgage Conference in May! What's new in the world of banking? #HurricaneHeleneResponse: The NCBA organized a Zoom call this week to discuss relief efforts following Hurricane Helene, bringing together bank members, government officials, and ABA and ICBA staff. Future calls will dive deeper into SBA disaster loan programs and other relief measures. #NCGeneralAssembly: The NC General Assembly reconvened this week and passed HB 149, allocating $273 million in disaster funding to road repairs and utility restoration. Additional spending is expected later this month to support recovery efforts. #LetterToFHFA: The NCBA joined state bankers associations across the country and the ABA in a letter to FHFA, addressing concerns over potential limitations on Federal Home Loan Banks that could impact banks’ access to critical funding.
