We’ve all heard the saying, “Find a job you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” In that case, Lacey Cook, a Cybersecurity Analyst for HMIS critical subcontractor North Wind Group, hasn’t “worked” a day since 2019. Part of her role focuses on educating others about cybersecurity, a perfect fit for someone as dedicated to protecting us as she is. “Cybersecurity is one of those fields where as soon as you think you know it all, a new threat emerges. This job evolves daily as technology advances,” Lacey says. She manages Sitewide email phishing campaigns and tackles emerging challenges posed by AI. “I grew up watching Terminator, and now I come to work figuring out ways to defend against AI threats in real life!” Growing up in the Tri-Cities, Lacey has deep roots in the Hanford community. Her journey began in high school as a PNNL intern, and she’s returned to the Site in various roles over the years. After stints as varied as janitor, cocktail waitress and even a “strategic candy display artist” during Halloween, she’s found her perfect fit in cybersecurity. A self-proclaimed “nerd,” Lacey is passionate about video games, science fiction and horror movies. Her husband shares her love of all things geeky, and they often game together with their 12-year-old son. From intense rounds of Overcooked to adrenaline-fueled matches of Mario Kart, Lacey treasures time spent with her family, controller in hand. Outside of work, Lacey loves having her brother live down the street, traveling to her husband’s native Scotland and rewatching The Matrix movies. And she’s a die-hard pizza lover with a firm belief that pineapple absolutely belongs on pizza. Thank you, Lacey, for your dedication to keeping the Site safe and educating us about cybersecurity. You are truly appreciated!
