What do food insecurity, musical theater, and chicken alfredo have in common? You'd be surprised! Our recent event with Blumenthal Arts brought together the magic of Disney’s The Lion King with the heart of Nourish Up's mission. From the stage to the kitchen, we found common ground in the most unexpected ways. Read more about this inspiring day, featuring insights from the cast and a delicious cooking demo by the talented Shef Shaun: https://lnkd.in/eQrRtJb8

We are thrilled to announce a generous donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! Their incredible contribution of 22 pallets, totaling 31,648 lbs. of essential food items, has arrived just in time. This support is especially vital as we have already served over 80,000 neighbors this year and have a busy season ahead of us. This food provides crucial relief and nourishment to families, children, and seniors facing food insecurity. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Charlotte NC Latter-day Saints for their unwavering support in our efforts to fight hunger.

Going to bed hungry during the summer months is a reality for far too many children in our community. Many families depend on free and reduced meal programs during the school year. In fact, nearly HALF of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ students receive free meals. That’s more than 69,000 children right here in the Queen City. But what do they do in the summer? At Nourish Up, our vision is a community that accepts no excuses for our neighbors going hungry. With increased costs of food, transportation, and housing, many of the families we serve are living paycheck to paycheck and they simply just cannot get caught up. In 2023, we provided nutritious groceries to more than 137,000 Mecklenburg County neighbors — more than 34% were children. We cannot nourish our youngest neighbors without neighbors like YOU. Please consider making a gift today: https://lnkd.in/eBTyrPqQ

What an incredible week of celebrations at Nourish Up! On Friday, June 21, we celebrated the Grand Opening of our new “Hunger Hub” with a ribbon-cutting ceremony! Over 200 community members, including volunteers, donors, neighbors, friends, and officials, joined us for a beautiful afternoon of celebration, tours, and refreshments. Kicking off the celebrations, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. hosted her Second Quarter Hunger Initiative Luncheon at our facility on June 20. More than 70 attendees, including partner organizations, students from Johnson C. Smith University, and our dedicated board members, heard about the vital federal funds secured for Nourish Up. We wrapped up the week with a fun Community Cookout on Saturday, June 22! Over 200 of our Thomasboro-Hoskins neighbors joined us for delicious food, an ice cream truck, and a kid's zone. Congratulations to Katherine, the winner of our $500 Grocery Card Giveaway! Thank you to everyone who joined us and made these events unforgettable. Together, we are making sure no neighbor goes hungry.
