This Hispanic Heritage Month, Forbes took a moment to speak with the owners of Chic Salon & Spa (Yessica G Aguirre) and Foundation For The Carolinas Special Advisor for Civic Initiatives, Tracy Russ, to learn about the diverse small businesses that are being supported by Beyond Open. Our program, led by Foundation For The Carolinas and supported by Wells Fargo's #openforbusiness Fund, is so proud of the many small business owners who are leveraging a Beyond Open grant to provide and grow their offerings. Check out the inspiring story to learn more about the Foundation's commitment to help move the needle on economic mobility in Charlotte. "...While Charlotte is no longer in last place, it still needs to work on its 38th ranking. Beyond Open may help the city and its small businesses do so. By concentrating resources in Charlotte, the program aims to create a more equitable distribution of capital and support. “We recognize that small businesses are catalysts for positive change in these communities,” Russ noted..." Thank you Geri Stengel for this great article! #economicmobility #fftc #wellsfargo #smallbusiness

Our hearts are with those impacted by Hurricane Helene across North Carolina and the Southeast.   While our headquarters, Charlotte, North Carolina, was spared the worst of the storm, the effects of Hurricane Helene are deeply personal to us. Many on our E4E Relief team have friends, family or cherished memories tied to the areas devastated by the storm. We feel this loss alongside our neighbors and are committed to supporting the communities that mean so much to us and to many.   With our more than 20 years of experience with compassionately providing emergency financial relief to individuals sponsored by corporations, we continue to see firsthand how timely assistance is critical in helping people recover and rebuild. In the wake of Hurricane Helene's devastation, we extend our resources to those across the Southeast to navigate the myriad challenges they are facing and will face in the coming weeks and months.   We’re already processing financial relief applications for those affected, and we are ready to support businesses that want to care for their employees during this difficult time.   If your employees have been impacted and you’re looking to provide direct cash grants, we can help. Please fill out this form, and we will connect with you as soon as possible: https://lnkd.in/gSSyMEri   Together, we can begin to rebuild.   #Helene #HurricaneHelene #emergencyfinancialrelief

  • In the wake of Hurricane Helene's devastation, our hearts go out to the families and communities impacted by this catastrophic storm. From Western North Carolina to Upstate South Carolina and throughout the Southeast, many lives have been upended, homes destroyed and neighborhoods left in turmoil. We recognize that the recovery from such a disaster will take time, effort and resources. One way to help is by supporting local nonprofits that can quickly deploy funding in the areas most impact. Linked in comments is a growing list of organizations leading the charge. Remember, if you are an FFTC fundholder, you can give directly from your donor advised fund to these efforts. We will keep you posted as we collaborate with our partners on how we can best support our neighbors during this time of great need.

  • So excited for friend of the Foundation Linda Lockman-Brooks, who will be honored on Oct. 5 as the The Charlotte Post Foundation Luminary award winner. Our CEO Cathy Bessant said it best about her longtime friend and fellow philanthropic volunteer: “When Linda turns to me and says, ’Now girlfriend…’, you know you’re going to hear something you need to hear whether you want to hear it or not. Linda is brave. She simply refuses to compromise her integrity by leaving something unsaid.” Get your tickets now for this great night honoring the Charlotte Post Foundation.

  • Our friends at Leading on Opportunity have been leading the way locally, helping shepherd the work to improve economic opportunity and upward mobility in our region. Great to see Dr. Raj Chetty giving our community credit in his NY Times-Breaking News column. Much more work to be done, but congrats to the efforts of Leading on Opportunity!

We at Leading on Opportunity are proud to see our work and the work of this community featured this morning in Dr. Raj Chetty's Op-Ed in the New York Times. ✒ Words of note: "A local example of making opportunity an explicit focus is the city of Charlotte, N.C., which in a 2014 research report ranked 50th of the 50 largest cities in America in kids’ chances of rising out of poverty. When that data came out, the city responded by bringing together business leaders, nonprofits and government to form a commission tasked with creating opportunity. It produced numerous investments in childhood programs and changes in local policies and hiring practices, which have in part contributed to a turnaround. Charlotte is now among the cities in which economic mobility is rising most quickly in America — demonstrating that opportunity can change." 📰 Read the full Op-Ed Here: https://lnkd.in/eyPVynzu

  • Paving the way for housing stability! The Charlotte Housing Opportunity Investment Fund, an initiative of FFTC to increase affordable housing, helped bring The Legacy at Carr Heights Senior Apartments to life — a $31 million community providing 120 units for residents 55 and older. We’re proud to see their commitment to ensuring access to safe, stable and affordable housing in action!

One of our grantees, LISC Charlotte, is a nimble nonprofit connecting hard-to-tap public and private resources with programs across Mecklenburg County in a wide variety of areas including affordable housing, economic development, education, wealth building, health, and sports and recreation. LISC-Charlotte's Charlotte Housing Opportunity Investment Fund (CHOIF), which TLLF recently invested in, helped finance The Legacy at Carr Heights Senior Apartments, a 120-unit apartment community on West Boulevard in Charlotte. The $31 million development for people age 55 and older is named after Nathaniel Carr, a Black landowner and farmer, who, along with his wife Lizzie, established the neighborhood in the early 20th century. The apartments celebrated their grand opening this summer! 🏡 We appreciate how LISC-Charlotte is bolstering access to safe, stable and affordable housing, which is one of our foundation's main priorities under our Human Services pillar. https://lnkd.in/eVYUXF7j #LeonLevineFoundation #LocalInitiativesSupportCorporation #AffordableHousing #CLT
