Science Day for school students in Denmark Last week, our colleagues hosted a group of 8th grade students for a visit in the labs at LIFE Foundation in Lyngby, Denmark. The students learned about biosolutions and everyday products, including how to make cheese from milk, bacteria and enzymes. They also got the chance to learn about yeast cells under the microscope, and they did a workshop on other science experiments such as 'elephant tooth paste'.   The visit concluded when two students from DTU - Technical University of Denmark came by to share their science show with a collection of fun and colorful experiments. Thank you to all students and participants, we hope that we managed to spark an interest in science! #biosolutions #science #STEM #novonesis

”I belong here, and we are creating something unique.” Our CEO Ester Baiget was awarded the Business Leader of the Year prize last week at a conference hosted by PwC, and she was also interviewed by Danish publication Finans. The jury emphasized Ester's role in the merger between two strong companies: "Ester Baiget has shown extraordinary resolve and courage taking on the responsibility for this complex merger," the jury said in a statement. Ester was interviewed about her perspective on Novonesis today:  “I feel like I belong here, and we are creating something unique for the world. Of course, it's not my job to receive awards. My job is to work for Novonesis and help unleash the potential of biosolutions and support our organization in doing its very best to enable a healthier planet and to create new meaningful jobs,” she said.   On the future of the company, Ester adds:  "We want to build a culture where you feel included and where your voice is heard. Where you can grow and thrive as a professional. We also focus on youth and listening to young voices in our organization, so we have the right perspectives for the future." Addressing the global dilemmas in the future of food We attended the Foodtech conference in Herning, Denmark, and our colleague Jacob Paulsen, EVP of Food and Beverage Biosolutions, gave a presentation about reducing food waste and ingredients of the future: "In the food industry, we have a big challenge ahead of us. By 2050, we need to feed around 2 billion more people, and we are already overstretching the planet’s natural resources today. By utilizing the natural processes of fermentation and the power of beneficial bacteria and enzymes, we can help extend the shelf life of food products such as bread and dairy, reducing waste and ensuring that more people have access to nutritious meals," he said. He believes that biosolutions can provide some of the answers we need to move towards a more sustainable and resilient food system in the future:  "Biosolutions can help us transform food production, reduce waste, and promote a healthier ecosystem - without compromising key consumer benefits such as clean label, taste, texture, and affordability." An estimated one-third of all produced food for human consumption is wasted annually, according to the UN. That is equivalent to more than 1.3 billion tons of food being wasted every year. #biosolutions #stopfoodwaste #foodandbeverage #foodtech

Future of Europe: "It's about seeing the potential in greener solutions rather than treating them as risks." Our colleague EVP Tina Sejersgård Fanø represented Novonesis at Danish Industry’s annual summit last week. She gave a presentation with a business perspective on the future of Europe: "The green transition represents a unique opportunity for Europe to shine on the global stage. That is far from the case today. Complicated approval processes within the EU lead to slower market entry for greener solutions compared to other regions like the U.S. and China," she said. Outside of Europe, significant investments are made in biosolutions, representing alternatives to fossil-based technologies. Tina listed three key priorities that are important for the EU to address: 1. Fit-for-purpose regulation 2. Efficiency of financial support 3. Strengthened innovation potential According to her, it is essentially about seeing the potential in greener solutions rather than treating them (primarily) as risks. #novonesis #biosolutions #EUGreenDeal #greentransition Photos are by Joshua Andrew Gross.

Today is the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste. How can biosolutions help reduce food waste? Every year, more than 1 billion tons of food is wasted, equaling about one third of all food produced for human consumption in the world. Join us to help create awareness of solutions to this global issue. Addressing food waste requires a long-term, multidisciplinary strategy that focuses on both food quality and consumer behavior. One example where our biosolutions have an impact is within dairy products. Fermented dairy products like yogurt and cheese remain safe and nutritious even at the end of their shelf life. However, due to 'use by date' labels, consumers often discard them prematurely. It is estimated that up to 10% of dairy products are wasted due to date labelling in the EU alone. By naturally extending shelf life, educating consumers on food safety and improving labeling practices, we can make significant strides in reducing food waste. Check out our suggested four steps to prevent food waste in the illustration. If you are interested to learn more about biosolutions for dairy, go to our dedicated showcase page on LinkedIn here: Novonesis Dairy. Our colleagues are working on preventing and reducing food waste in many areas, including our enzyme solutions for baking that improve shelf life for bread, biscuits and flat bread. These solutions have saved an estimated 80 billion loaves of bread from being thrown away. #foodwaste #biosolutions #FightAgainstFoodWaste #novonesis

How can biosolutions help accelerate the green transition of our food production? Our colleagues attended several events during New York Climate Week around the topic of transforming our food systems. Morten Enggaard Rasmussen, EVP of People & Stakeholder Relations, was a speaker at the Sustainability Summit NYC hosted by the Consulate General of Denmark In New York and shared his thoughts on the role of biosolutions: “Biosolutions are a key element in transforming our food systems towards a more sustainable path. The solutions we need are already here today. Now it is more a question of how do we scale and how do we invest in bringing these products and solutions forward to truly transform the food system in the future,” he said.  In addition, we attended the Food and Agriculture Roundtable hosted by the Food & Bio Forum to talk further about how we can collaborate across sectors. This will enable us to move faster towards a more resilient and sustainable food system that will help build a future with healthier lives and a healthier planet for the coming generations. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the important discussions about the future of food. #biosolutions #foodsystems #NYclimateweek #futureoffood

There is power in biosolutions to reduce emissions everywhere, putting the world on the path to a more sustainable future for the coming generations. At Novonesis, we believe that we need to empower the next generation and bring forward their perspective in the solutions needed to address climate change and the health of people and planet, enabling them to participate in tomorrow’s decisions and in making the necessary change a reality on a global scale. Right now, our biosolutions are helping customers to reduce and even capture emissions from industry. They’re transforming plants into power and heat. They’re enabling lower-carbon transport fuels and proteins. They’re shrinking the carbon footprint of agriculture. And they’re helping consumers to cut their carbon emissions when doing laundry. If we work together, we can accelerate our path towards a more climate-neutral society. Learn more here:  https://lnkd.in/ggfdMUq6 #biosolutions #climateaction #UNGA79 #nyclimateweek
