Last Thursday, we were eagerly awaiting the result of the UK 2025 #NationalSkillsAwards and what a night it turned out to be with superstar Keely Salter from #Oldbury site scooping two top awards. 🏆🏆 Keely's mentor Sav Lagana reflected on the week: "There has been quite a buzz around site with the news about Keely. We’re all extremely proud of Keely for what she has achieved and won. "This is only the beginning of a very long and successful journey for Keely who has taken the last few days in her stride. To be named UK nuclear apprentice of the year is a dream come true not only for Keely but for the team and site. Well done." 👏 John Alderton, site director, added: "Keely's achievement is absolutely fantastic and testament to her hard work and dedication. Keely's progress has been phenomenal, and the UK nuclear apprentice of the year award is well deserved recognition of that. "As site director, I am extremely proud of her, as I am of all of our apprentices and graduates. I have no doubt that this accomplishment will be the first of many in what I am sure will be a long and distinguished career for Keely." 🌟 Here's Keely talking about her NRS apprenticeship as a health physics and radiation protection technician. ⬇️ #ApprenticeshipSuccess #CareerGrowth #Inspiration #Nuclear #SkillsForNuclear #Pride #SkillsForLife Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Energus, Bridgwater & Taunton College, South West Apprenticeship Ambassador Network, National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN), Cogent Skills.

“Being someone who learns best on the job, an apprenticeship was always appealing to me, but I was never sure which path I wanted to follow. When I first heard about the opportunity of doing an apprenticeship in radiation protection with NRS, my first thoughts were: ‘But I’m 22, that’s too old,’ and ‘I’ve got a degree, they will probably say I’m overqualified.’ When I learned that this didn’t matter, I decided to apply.” – Viktorija Bucionyte, Completed Level 2 Nuclear Working Wales Apprentice Discover how an NRS apprenticeship could be right for you. 🔗 Apply now: https://lnkd.in/e-MvdwZi #ApprenticeshipsForAll #NRSApprentice #Apprenticeship #NuclearJobsUK #NuclearApprentices make this bang on 270 characters

We were pleased to facilitate another productive and informative session with Members of the Scottish Parliament and other interested parties in Annan this week. With a focus on site end states, members of the Scottish Parliament’s Cross-Party Group (CPG) on the Civil Nuclear Industry discussed the approach to determining the safe, sustainable and publicly acceptable condition that nuclear sites will be taken to at the end of the decommissioning process. As the first CPG meeting to take place outside Scottish Parliament, it was fitting that the session took place against the backdrop of Chapelcross; a site where alongside ongoing decommissioning work, focus is also turning to the long-term future of the site with the proposed development of a green energy hub on adjacent land. This is to include a new green hydrogen project, being developed by Green Cat Hydrogen Ltd, on which the first public consultation event takes place next week. Members of the CPG also took the opportunity on Monday to visit Chapelcross to see first-hand progress being made by the team at Nuclear Restoration Services to decommission the site. They were joined for the visit by a contingent from North Wales, who are exploring options to develop a multi-faceted facility at Trawsfynydd. We’d like to thank Annan Athletic Football Club for their hospitality in hosting the meeting. 🚀 Demolition diary #4 We've taken another step closer to completing the turbine hall demolition at #Sizewell A site with the removal of the adjoining fire station building – adding another 25.8m² to the overall demolition footprint. ✅ This was a critical part of the site's emergency response until it was replaced by Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service in the 1990s. 🚒The fire station will be remembered fondly. We are removing the final bay of the roof section of the main turbine hall building today. 🚀 #NuclearDecommissioning #demolition #SustainableDemolition

🌟#ThrowbackThursday 🌟 We recently welcomed staff and students from the Central Laser Facility at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory to #Harwell site. They visited the historic Dido reactor, the UK’s first heavy water moderated, high neutron flux, research material testing reactor, operational from 1956 to 1990. Now, it stands as part museum, showcasing the rich history of nuclear research. We even recreated a photo from Margaret Thatcher's visit in 1973 with a group picture in front of the Dido reactor! 📸 Dido's legacy is incredible: 🚀25 fuel elements with 205g of enriched Uranium-235 🚀10 tonnes of heavy water as moderator and cooling system 🚀Operated at 70°C with graphite reflector 🚀Radiation protection with layers of boron, lead, and concrete 🚀Produced over 4.5 billion kWh of energy 🚀Split over 5.23 x 10²⁶ Uranium-235 atoms and produced 1.27 x 10²⁷ neutrons #NuclearHistory #NuclearHeritage #Science #Innovation 🔬💡 ⬇️

It was a pleasure to welcome engineers from across Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) to our head office in Bradford-on-Avon last week for a demonstration day. Representatives from Dungeness, Berkeley, Hinkley, and Oldbury joined us to see some of our key nuclear decommissioning techniques in action. Throughout the visit, the teams observed live demonstrations, including our FOAMBAG™ technique—an effective solution for sealing off disused pipework, ducts, and voids and for immobilising debris in the pipework. Designed to fit any shape or size, the cured FOAMBAG™ can also be cut through at the centre point, helping to prevent contamination escape during removal. We also showcased our specialist pipe-cutting tools, including the PE Pipe Cutter, which safely and efficiently cuts large-diameter PE pipes, and the Keel Cutter, designed for circumferential cutting and bevelling of pipe materials like steel, cast iron, ductile and cement, up to 1600mm in diameter. The day provided a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge, explore solutions, and discuss how we can continue to support decommissioning projects. A huge thank you to Wayne Griffiths for organising the visit and to everyone who took part. #NuclearDecommissioning #Innovation #Collaboration Richard Ditte Aiden Flynn Max Smale
