We're thrilled to announce an industry first at Sellafield! Our team of remote technology specialists have successfully operated a robot remotely from an off-site location. Operators at Westlakes Science Park in Whitehaven, have proven they can safely and securely control a robot on the Sellafield site, showcasing huge potential for the future of our clean-up mission. For the past 2 years, we've embraced quadrupedal robots through the RAICo programme and our supply chain. Recently, we've partnered with AtkinsRéalis to deploy a customised Boston Dynamics Spot Quadrupedal Robotic ‘dog’ for remote inspections, data gathering, and clean-up tasks. This latest trial takes remote operations a step further by removing the operator from the nuclear site entirely, thanks to a highly secure virtual access network and live-streamed footage. Deon Bulman, ROV Equipment Programme Lead at Sellafield Ltd, said: "This successful trial marks a significant milestone in our journey towards integrating advanced robotics into our operations at Sellafield. The ability to remotely operate robotic systems like Spot demonstrates how digital innovation can enhance safety, efficiency, and decision-making on nuclear-licensed sites." James, one of our site photographers, has been out and about this week and took this amazing shot! And of course, we had to use it for today's #photofriday. James said: "I took this image at Graham Engineering Ltd, and it was fascinating to see how much work goes into making our waste containers. I was particularly pleased that the brightness of the welding torch didn't blur the shot." 📷 image captured with a Nikon D810 #photo #photography #sellafield #suppychain #sellafieldpartners #proudsellafield #IndustrialPhotography #SitePhotography #NikonD810 #WasteManagement #GrahamEngineering #SupplyChainPhotography

Our history doesn't just cover our nuclear heritage. It's also intricately linked to our local communities. Local buildings and facilities outside the Sellafield site have historically supported our business requirements and continue to do so. This week's #throwbackthursday features Pelham House, situated on the south side of Calder Bridge, West Cumbria. This Grade II listed house, named after Herbert Pelham, the 3rd Bishop of Barrow-in-Furness, was formerly known as Ponsonby Hall. Constructed in 1774, it was designed by James Paine for Edward Stanley, a local gentleman and landowner. Throughout its history, Pelham House served as an approved school for boys before transitioning to one of our off-site office buildings and is now under the ownership of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). This photo was taken in 1998, and showcases the house in its full grandeur.🏡 We would love to hear your stories about the place, comment down below.👇 #nuclear #sellafield #throwback #archive #WestCumbria #NuclearHeritage #CalderBridge #HistoricBuildings #CommunityHistory #PelhamHouse #GradeIIListed #NuclearDecommissioning

We’re talking sustainability today at the Economist Impact 10th annual Sustainability Week. It’s exciting to be sharing our sustainability story with a global audience. For us it’s simple: sustainability can only succeed if everyone buys into it. From the boardroom to the shop floor. As we take on this great challenge, the most important thing is that we take people along with us. Our employees, our supply, chain, our stakeholders, and our community. We’re turning our passion into action on the ground and we couldn’t be prouder of the progress we’re making. But there’s so much more to do. You can find out more from Eirini Etoimou, our Head of Corporate Sustainability and Supply Chain Development, by clicking the link to a video in the comments below ⬇️ #EconSustainability #sustainability #sellafield #socialimpact #supplychain #nuclear #sustainabilityweek #theeconomist #sustainablebusiness #socialvalue Eirini Etoimou, FIEMA, MSc, MBA LS Economist Impact Economist Impact events

We're excited to share a little piece of history for this week's #throwback! The Sellafield Visitors' Centre opened its doors back in 1988, thanks to the late Prince Philip, and went on to become one of West Cumbria's biggest tourist attractions. This photograph gives you a snapshot of the amazing staff who were there when it all began! With International Women’s Day just around the corner, it’s interesting to see the many women who were part of the Visitors' Centre right from the start, many of whom continued to work here for a number of years. If you'd like to take a stroll down memory lane and remind yourself of the centre's history, just click the link below. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eBYKQkZg Do you recognise anyone?
