About us

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). DHS collaborates with nonprofit organizations to provide temporary shelter and services that homeless New Yorkers, including those living on the street, need to help stabilize their lives and achieve housing permanency.
