About us
The New York State Golf Association is an association of member clubs, represented by over 150 committee members, and exists for the purpose of promoting and conserving the traditions of golf throughout New York State. Each year since its founding in 1923, the NYSGA has conducted New York State’s Amateur Championships. The NYSGA also conducts qualifying for the United States Golf Association Championships and runs a series of popular handicapped events known as the Amateur Series. In addition to conducting tournaments, the NYSGA provides member services including handicapping, course measuring and rating, scholarships, training, rules education, marketing opportunities, and communications. The NYSGA also oversees and selects membership in the New York State Golf Association Hall of Fame which recognizes and enshrines accomplished golfers and volunteers statewide.

Exciting news this week from the United States Golf Association (USGA) on the expansion of State Junior Teams, which will include New York in 2025 👏 We will be working with the Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA), Rochester District Golf Association, along with the Central New York Pga, METROPOLITAN SECTION PGA, Northeastern New York Section PGA, and Western New York PGA for Team New York.
The State Junior Program supporting elite junior golfers is expanding! We’re happy to announce that nine new teams will be established in 2025, joining the seven teams launched earlier this year. See if you or a junior golfer you know is eligible to represent your state.

The 2024 NYSGA tournament season was another memorable one thanks to this year’s class of United States Golf Association (USGA) P.J. Boatwright, Jr. interns. It was a pleasure having Garrett Aadal, Jack Corcoran, Carson Crestohl, Nico Karnath, and Luke Lynch on our team, and we appreciate their excellent work conducting and covering tournaments across the Empire State 👏 Wishing them all the best of luck in the next chapter of their careers!

We crowned our 40th New York State Amateur champion over the weekend at Schuyler Meadows Club Inc! Congrats to Kyle Downey who won with a record-setting 14-under 202 over 54 holes (previous low was 9-under in 2019). 👏 The Locust Hill Country Club star broke the competitive course record in the opening round with a 63 (-9), which also stands as the lowest round score in NYS Mid-Am history (previous best was 66 in 2017). The former Siena College basketball player now joins elite company who’ve won both a Men’s Am & Mid-Am title, which includes Empire State greats such as Don Allen, John Baldwin, Alan Foster, Jim Roy, Jim Scorse and Mike Valicenti.
