Where can I find support from people like me who are using medication to take back control over alcohol? These questions and many more are answered in the November edition of The Current, Oar Health's newsletter, linked below.

"Prior to Oar, alcohol always had a strong grip on me, but my use of naltrexone has been instrumental to my recovery process. It helped diminish my cravings enough that I now feel empowered to resist the temptations and triggers that previously would have led me to overindulge. It has enabled me to take charge of my alcohol consumption and to make healthier decisions." It's 2024, and over 30 million people are suffering from alcohol use disorder in the US alone. Can a simple, cost-effective pill called naltrexone help millions of Americans cut back, or cut out, alcohol? Our founder, Jonathan Hunt-Glassman, joins Jesse J. Carrajat on his podcast, Sober Strength, to discuss how they both were able to drink less — or quit.

Medication to help you drink less, or quit, can be an invaluable tool. However, the path still requires self-discipline and focus, especially in the first 6-12 months.

Is drinking affecting your job? Is alcohol harming your health or relationships? Does your drinking worry you? Ever tried to drink less but failed? Work stress is a leading cause of alcohol misuse, and millions of Americans struggle with alcohol problems. Jonathan started Oar Health because he was one of them. Jonathan struggled with alcohol misuse for 15 years. Binges. Blackouts. Bad decisions. Anxiety. Regret. Shame. Resolving to quit drinking entirely. Making "rules" to limit drinking. Trying and failing again and again. Jonathan tried self-help, therapy, and traditional twelve step programs. But nothing really worked for him. Until he found an empathetic, non-judgmental addiction medicine specialist who encouraged him to give medication a try. Medication that is just an ordinary-looking beige pill, but one that has had a transformational effect on his life. Since Jonathan began taking it every morning, he hasn't ended a night out-of-control drunk once. While he still enjoys a cocktail before dinner or a beer at a baseball game, he doesn't feel the same rush of excitement and euphoria that alcohol used to bring. He no longer feels the overpowering urge to drink more and more and more and more. Jonathan founded Oar Health to help others treat their alcohol misuse in the way he would to be treated — privately and without judgment. And everything is done online to make the journey convenient and affordable. Oar Health provides access to safe & effective medication that is FDA-approved for the treatment of alcohol issues. A daily pill proven to reduce alcohol cravings and make it easier to drink less or quit. To see if medication could help you take back control over alcohol, you can start by taking Oar Health’s private online assessment. It takes just a few minutes. Most people do it right on their smartphone. If treatment is right for you, a licensed medical professional will prescribe medication directly online. Oar Health then sends meds right to your door in discreet packaging. Again, everything is private, convenient, affordable, and judgment-free. So, whether you want to cut back or quit drinking altogether, Oar Health could be right for you.

And for a good reason: naltrexone is highly effective. However, therapy alongside medication for alcohol can also help those seeking to cut back or stop drinking. When it comes to combining medication with therapy for alcohol use disorder (AUD), which types of treatment are most effective? Is therapy more or less effective alone? How can therapy be helpful when added to a medicine regimen? To learn more checkout this week's resource article: https://lnkd.in/efU9r7QC
