‼ Take action for our ocean: https://lnkd.in/eBBr678S Fish are key players in our ocean ecosystems and important for people and economies worldwide. Fishing is a major component of food security and culture—fisheries put food on the table for billions of people, offer jobs and livelihoods for millions and help generate tourism to many coastal communities. That’s why fishery managers need to take action now to prepare United States fisheries for climate change. Climate change is already here, and it’s putting stress on our ocean and fishing communities and having major impacts on fisheries across the country. We must act now and call on NOAA Fisheries to ensure fishery managers can address climate change head-on. Throw a rock in Florida, and you’ll find a golf course, pickleball court, or a hotel. But it’s getting increasingly hard to find the pristine sugar sand dunes, the bowls of liquid light that are our gem-like springs, the deep and unadulterated swamps and glades, the teeming and tangled mangrove forests – these are the things and special places that I want my Florida to have more of. The fact is, we’re paving paradise and putting up parking lots at a pace that we might never recover from, and we’re about to blast past the point of no return. That’s why it’s incumbent on Floridians both new and native to sound the alarm not just about protecting the integrity of our state parks, but about protecting against unbridled, mindless growth. Together, our collective voices can make change. I hope you'll join me in taking action. READ my op-ed in the Tampa Bay Times https://lnkd.in/eXiT-Uea

😡 There has been yet *another* oil disaster in our ocean. This time, an oil spill from an “inactive” and deteriorating offshore drilling platform was discovered off the coast of Texas, just miles from popular beaches and fishing spots. We MUST hold oil companies accountable by supporting decommissioning efforts like the Plug Offshore Wells Act. We can avoid future oil disasters by supporting legislation like—take action now and urge Congress to pass this bill. ⤵ https://lnkd.in/e_4Ms45d

🎉 OCEAN VICTORY: The U.S. will support provisions in the Global Plastics Treaty to reduce plastic production! 👏 As one of the largest producers of plastics in the world, the U.S. has the opportunity and responsibility to help tackle the plastic pollution crisis head-on by making less plastic. The Ocean Conservancy team, alongside many others, has worked for months to ensure the #PlasticsTreaty protects our ocean and communities from the devastating impacts of the plastic pollution crisis. We look forward to seeing the U.S. carry this momentum into the upcoming negotiations in Busan to ensure our ocean and our communities are protected from plastic pollution for generations to come. 📉 FULL STATEMENT: https://ow.ly/ZCpo50SYI2Z . . . . . . #plasticpollution #marinedebris #trashfreeseas #pollution #oceanplastic #natureconservation #oceanconservation #marineconservation #plasticstreaty #globalplasticstreaty #oceanwins
