Through the #CareerExplorationExperience, CLAOC connects students to work and learning experiences with OC employers – and develops OC’s skilled talent pipeline. In this CLAOC Talent Spotlight, meet Sonora High School student @Jacoba Van Hartingsveldt and read about her micro-internship with @Medtronic. Matched with Medtronic Neurovascular in Irvine and mentor @Alicia MacDonald. Coby worked on a project involving the implications of AI in early detection and diagnosis of neurological conditions. An aspiring biomedical engineer, Coby had the opportunity to strengthen her research and analysis skills and a better understanding of what this role looks like on the job. “Having an experience like this builds your confidence about going into a professional role. I got to see what it is to be a biomedical engineer and really envision that future for myself,” Coby says. Coby developed a range of skills through her experience with Medtronic: -Deeper understanding of the sub-areas of AI -Knowledgeable about the medical device industry -More comfortable and adaptable in professional environments Coby encourages other high school students to dive into internships. As she pursues a career in the biomedical industry, she thinks Medtronic would be a wonderful place to work! Exciting news! This week, CEO Leadership Alliance Orange County (CLAOC) and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America launched their first Workplace Mentoring Pilot Program at Edwards Lifesciences. We welcomed 21 eager students from UC Irvine, California State University, Fullerton, and Chapman University who are ready to explore the MedTech industry! Each student has been paired with an industry mentor from OC Fellows, including professionals from Medtronic and Edwards Lifesciences. Over the next 7 months, they will dive deep into the industry, build valuable skills, and expand their professional networks. We’re so excited to witness the growth, learning, and new connections that will unfold.
