Yesterday, I had the opportunity to present about Ocient at the Munich Database Meetup! The spirit of the database community in Munich is simply incredible. It was a blast! First of all, a big thank you goes to Marina Petrova and Alex Petrov for making this possible at the Xempus office in Munich! Further, I need to do a big shoutout to Andrei Shakirin for his talk about Atomicity and Consistency Across Databases and Messaging Systems!

DoDIIS and Halloween are both next week! While Halloween might be scary, your growing data sets don’t have to be. Stop by Booth 2007 and discover how Ocient can take the fright out of your always-on, compute-intensive workloads. Looking to book a meeting in advance? Reach out to William Minarchi or John Temple to secure a time. See you there! #DoDIIS24 #NCSI

Since the earliest days of The Bloor Group, we've focused intently on evangelizing Information Architecture as an enabler for better Analytics. Today, that conversation largely revolves around AI. The blessing and curse of any architectural approach is the myriad ways that companies can optimize their data landscape. You could go streaming-first like the folks at Confluent recommned; or you could just buy Databricks! Those are rather simplistic methods of getting to the end goal of enabling AI, but so long as organizations are disciplined in how they build out their data architecture on top of such solutions, good results will likey arise. One macro trend we're now seeing involves the new #NVMe protocol to achieve true #hyperscale functionality. In fact, those all-flash arrays keep cropping up everywhere, fundamentally disrupting traditional architectures. Take Ocient for example: They built a whole new platform with NVMe at the heart of their schematic to achieve hyperscale data warehousing. They can now ingest trillions of records (and often serve as a landing zone for #Kafka). Or how about VAST Data, the new NVMe-powered #SSD storage tier that was purpose-built for enabling AI at scale. Their estimated valuation is knocking on the door of $10 billion, and they're just getting started! Then there's Hammerspace, the company that's arguably obviating the need for discussions about #DataMesh vs #DataFabric. Frankly, who cares when you can access any data, no matter the size, from anywhere, almost instantly! Yes, the hyperscale reality afforded by Non-Volatile Memory Express really has changed the game. Companies that embrace this new approach will surely eclipse those that don't. Just make sure you have a valid use case! * David Flynn * Molly Presley * Linda Thomson * Beth Mayer * Chris Gladwin * Taylor Todd * Jenna Boller Chorn * Jim Crook * Marianne Budnik * Shawn Rogers * Merv Adrian * Kevin Petrie * Douglas Laney
Founder and CEO at BARC - offering data & analytics leaders the best independent information and advice on data strategy, organization and technology, Host of The Data Culture Podcast
On the latest episode of the Data Culture Podcast I had sat down with my fellow analysts Merv Adrian and Shawn Rogers to talk about optimizing #architecture for AI innovation. One key takeaway for me: integration remains a major barrier to AI adoption, which requires a combination of technical, business, and organizational alignments. We also discussed the importance of trusting AI outcomes, and the role of responsible AI practices. Building a strong #data foundation and using specialized models are critical for any organization looking to maximize the potential of #AI. Here's the episode: https://hubs.li/Q02V2x0x0 They both wrote a study about the topic, find it here (for free): https://hubs.li/Q02V2y5l0. Shawn will also speak at DATA festival #online in November. Great profile of one of Chicago's most prolific entrepreneurs and a Buoyant Ventures portfolio company CEO, Chris Gladwin. We're proud to invest in Ocient. Their database software is dramatically more energy efficient than competitors', and Chris is leading with his personal values by making energy use a consideration for enterprise customers and data center operators. We're grateful for his civic leadership on the P33 Chicago board, helping to elevate the City's profile internationally in the technology industry.
