On Monday, October 14, we celebrated the life and impact of past OIC of Washington Board member, Mr. Alphonso “Al” Bradley. Earning the moniker, “Super Hero” for his 50 years of service to the Yakima community. Command Sergeant Major Bradley served in the US Army for 24 years. He earned a Purple Heart during the Cold War and later took post overseeing the Yakima Training “Firing” Center. After his illustrious military career, he met and married Annie Lee Johnson Bradley (1944-2013). Together, they enjoyed a family of three sons and one daughter. As a civilian, he worked at Boise Cascade Sawmill for over 20 years. There, he ascended to Regional Safety Manager. Along with serving as a Board member of OIC of Washington, he helped establish the East Side Sports League at the now, Henry Beauchamp Jr. Community Center (Southeast Yakima Community Center), and successfully coached for many years. Additionally, Mr. Bradley was a founding member of Greater Faith Baptist Church. In his 50 years of service to the church, Mr. Bradley was superintendent of Sunday School, head of the Ushers Board, van driver, and steward of the church's affairs. Mr. Bradley served as president of the Yakima Branch of the NAACP, as well as the Alaska, Oregon and Washington NAACP State Area Conference Officer. He was also the Director of Yakima's AmeriCorps program. In addition to representing Black Veterans at the state level, he mentored dozens of students navigating the city's public schools. Resolutions and proclamations were developed and presented by members of Greater Faith Baptist Church, NAACP - Yakima Branch 1140-B, and OIC of Washington and the Mayor of Yakima. https://lnkd.in/gasADFMA

¡VIVA! Today marks the beginning of #HispanicHeritageMonth! 🎉 ✨#HispanicHeritageMonth was established to honor the achievements, diverse cultures, and contributions of Hispanic Americans. It started as a week in 1968 under President Lyndon B. Johnson and was expanded to a 30-day period in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan. ✨#HispanicHeritageMonth begins on September 15th to align with the Independence Day celebrations of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Also, Día de la Raza on October 12 falls within this 30-day celebration.
