About us

Olmsted Medical Center (OMC), a not-for-profit organization, has been southeastern Minnesota’s hometown healthcare provider since 1949. OMC’s 168 clinicians join over 1,300 other healthcare professionals serving at 20 locations, including two multi-specialty clinics, a Level IV trauma hospital with 24-hour emergency room, a Skyway Clinic in downtown Rochester, and 11 community branch clinics. OMC also offers walk-in FastCare and Acute Care clinics. OMC has more than 35 specialties and is best known for its convenient, quality personal care. Each year, the Olmsted Medical Center team sees over 325,000 patients, performs nearly 4,200 major surgical operations, cares for 23,000 patients in our Emergency Care department, and delivers nearly 1,000 babies.

    Meet Sarah De Cicco, MD, Obstetrician Gynecologist at Olmsted Medical Center. Dr. De Cicco has been with Olmsted Medical Center since 2019 and offers a full spectrum of obstetrics and gynecology services, including prenatal care, labor and delivery, postpartum care, and addressing gynecological concerns like endometriosis, abnormal uterine bleeding, and pelvic pain. Dr. De Cicco says, "The best and most rewarding thing is when you're able to help someone through a time that is difficult and would have been harder for them if you weren't there. That's extremely rewarding." Outside of work, Dr. De Cicco enjoys spending time with her toddlers, reading, cooking, and being with her extended family in Rochester.     As an Emergency Medicine physician, David McAlpine, MD, is committed to enriching lives through expert care. Dr. McAlpine has been with OMC since 2023, and treats a wide range of conditions, from trauma, broken bones, and dislocated joints to heart attacks, strokes, pneumonia, and viral infections such as COVID-19 and influenza. Dr. McAlpine works closely with his team to ensure patients are seen quickly, receive personalized care, and leave with a sense of peace and confidence in their treatment.  Dr. McAlpine says, “I think you should choose our facility because you're going to have a completely different experience than anywhere else in the region. You're going to get registered and roomed very quickly, and you are going to be exclusively cared for by board certified, experienced, well-trained physicians and advanced practitioners." Outside of work, Dr. McAlpine enjoys spending time outdoors in southeastern Minnesota, fishing, and being on the water with his family.

    Olmsted Medical Center's Occupational Health is relocating to Miracle Mile Mall! Starting September 30, patients will enjoy expanded services and convenient access at the new location, just steps away from the Miracle Mile Clinic. The move allows OMC to better support Occupational Health patients and open up space for other specialties at the Rochester Southeast Clinic.     Meet Kaela Koalska, Occupational Therapist (OT) at Olmsted Medical Center. Kaela specializes in both outpatient and hospital-based care, focusing on cognitive rehabilitation and addressing issues related to hands, wrists, and elbows. Additionally, Kaela is expanding her expertise into the treatment of lymphedema, helping patients manage swelling and regain function in their daily activities. Kaela says, “When patients come to see me, I want them to know that their opinions and their views on their work and personal life matter, and we will try to cater our treatment plan and our goals to those things. If there's anything as a human that you're having difficulty with, we will try to problem solve that."     Meet Odette El Helou, MD, Infectious Disease physician at Olmsted Medical Center. Dr. El Helou has been with OMC since 2023 and treats infections caused by organisms such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi, affecting all parts of the body. Dr. El Helou collaborates closely with her team to gather detailed patient histories, conduct exams, and create personalized treatment plans. Passionate about public health, Dr. El Helou enjoys working with the community to keep it safe. Dr. El Helou says, "Infectious disease doctors are detectives - we solve mysteries. As a child, I always loved reading mystery books, and I think we gather those clues from the patient. Based on all of this information, we try to find the answer and figure out a treatment plan. I like that investigational aspect of my specialty." Outside of work, Dr. El Helou enjoys spending time with her family, downhill and cross-country skiing, running, swimming, and biking.
