About us

OpenPitch automates financial updates, saving time and promoting collaboration between founders and investors. Most investors rely on founders to send quarterly email updates, often leading to outdated or inaccurate perceptions of the startup’s financial health. OpenPitch connects directly to a company’s business bank account to calculate key metrics like runway and burn rate, allowing founders to focus on building while investors can leverage their expertise to proactively support portfolio companies.

    Product Manager | 2x Founder | Mentor

After winding down my second startup, I lacked guidance and a plan. I was trying to figure out what job I was qualified for next. My mentor at that point was my cousin, A tech veteran who moved up the ranks at large software companies since the 90’s. After running him through my day-to-day work, I asked what job I would be best qualified for. “Product. You’ve been working as a Product Manager for the past 4 years.” Product … hmm … (At that time, I think it was the first time I’ve ever heard that term) I jumped over to Google and ordered as many books as I can find on Product Management – That was where I learnt most of my PM knowledge, prior to working several PM positions. From my startup experience, I knew how to operate a company, But I understood that I was lacking the ability to build a great product. I wanted to learn how to build “great”, not just “good”. What I learnt there was simple: When looking for a new position, sometimes you need volume. Oftentimes, all you need is guidance. And sometimes, the best guidance is from the people closest to you. All you have to do is ask.

About a year ago I met a super impressive entrepreneur, Nishant Deshpande over coffee. We talked about his dream to develop software to solve classic finance marketplace problems. Much of the first gen development work was complete and they were beginning to test the market. I loved what Nishant and his team were building and became an investor and third party advisor in the business. Specifically OpenPitch has developed a SaaS platform that transforms the way startups and investors collaborate. OpenPitch is stepping into a massive market with over 16,000 investment groups and 5 million new ventures emerging annually in the US. Their platform's automation and simplicity are resonating with founders, enabling investors to efficiently receive the financial insights they need to provide timely support and guidance. If you are interested in learning more about the company and participating in their current fundraising round, be sure to connect with Nishant Deshpande and send him a direct LinkedIn message.

Founders are expected to send monthly updates. But do we really understand who we’re updating and why? Let’s break it down. 1. Existing Investors: What to Share: The raw truth. Celebrate the highs, acknowledge the lows, and be clear about what you need. Why: These are the people who’ve already bought into your vision. They’re not just looking for progress; they’re here to help. Being transparent can lead to actionable advice or resources. 2. Prospective Investors: What to Share: The highlights. Frame challenges as opportunities and emphasize growth and potential. Why: You’re still courting this group. While honesty is essential, you also want to present a compelling narrative that makes them want to jump on board. 3. Friends and Family: What to Share: The exciting stuff! Share press mentions, big wins, and milestones. Why: While they might not be the ones to help with business challenges, they’re your personal cheer squad. Keep them in the loop and let them celebrate with you. The trap many founders fall into? Sending a one-size-fits-all update to everyone. This can lead to generic, infrequent, and less impactful communications. A Thought for Founders: Consider being more open and vulnerable with your existing investors. They invested in you because they believe in your potential and want to see you succeed. By keeping them informed about what's going on, you can make the most of their expertise. To save time with this, consider using OpenPitch for free! Our AI-assisted feature, set to launch in early September, will surely blow you away. I've included a sneak peek below:
