Orlando Science Center is committed to eliminating barriers to learning through our Science for All Access Program, which ensures individuals and families from low-income households have access to high-quality cultural experiences through reduced-price admissions and discounted family memberships. 🦥🍃 This program would not be possible without the ongoing generosity of funders like the TD Charitable Foundation. We are proud to announce that Orlando Science Center has been awarded a Disney Grant as part of the #WaltDisneyWorld Summer of Sharing! Last Friday, Science Center leadership attended a special performance of the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue along with 6 other incredible Florida nonprofits, where Disney made a surprise announcement that they were awarding grants to nonprofit organizations that are bringing joy, happiness and magic to families. This grant will support our Neighborhood Science program, providing free after-school STEM programming for youth in underserved Central Florida communities. We are so grateful to have Disney as a partner for this vital and impactful program. Thank you for all you do for our community!

About 60% of LGBTQ+ scientists and engineers are openly queer in their personal lives, but only 16% are open at work! Dr. Joey Nelson, an openly gay scientist, feels that it’s important for there to be visibility within the STEM field claiming that “diversity means better science.” 🧑🏼🔬👨🏻🔬👩🏾🔬 Learn more about Dr. Nelson’s research for Queer in STEM as he helps pave the way towards more inclusion within the sciences in our Summer SCOPE, https://lnkd.in/e88ecM7b

It’s been 8 years since the LGBTQ+ community and communities of color suffered immense tragedy at Pulse nightclub in a senseless act of violence. Today and every day, we honor the 49 souls that were lost that night and reflect on the love our community displayed as we rallied to show support for their families and friends. As we walk down the “Love Bridge” into the Science Center, we are reminded of the love that surrounds us from every walk of life. And when we feel lost, we look for our reflection in the “Facets of Love” exhibit. Here we can see our hearts interwoven among those of the community. The “Love Bridge” was originally made up of origami hearts all hand-crafted by community members sharing messages of affection, strength, belonging, and hope, installed in response to the Pulse shooting. These were replaced by a permanent installation of crystal hearts, and the origami hearts were then crafted into “Facets of Love,” an installation commissioned by Christy Hope McCutchen and Nathan Selikoff on display on Level 3. Both serve as permanent reminders that here at Orlando Science Center, we will continue to embrace inclusivity, diversity, equality and access for all because love always wins. 🖤🤎❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
