✈ Travelling around the world again you might ask... ⁉ Well I was lucky enough to visit Chennai, India, from October 12th to October 21st. As someone working in the climate industry, it may seem counter intuitive to be travelling across the globe for these kind of events. However, these events set the foundations for growth and development, so that in the future these events can be set up and run wholly within country. 🏭 This time round we hosted a 5-day Orientation Programme on Energy Modelling through collaboration between National and International Partnerships at Climate Compatible Growth #CCG. This was held at Anna University Chennai, who are one of CCG's partner organisations in India. Usually during our ⚡ Energy Modelling Platforms (EMPs) ⚡ we hold training for many tools. This time we focused on only OSeMOSYS (tool) and CLEWs Climate-, Land-, Energy-, Water-systems (framework). I was lucky enough to train esteemed professionals from government and academia, with the overall aim to create interest and provide a good level of basic understanding of CLEWs as a framework and how to build a simple model (using OSeMOSYS). This was the first time I had run such a workshop outside of an EMP, so despite the shorter duration, the participants were excellent and their enthusiasm allowed them to produce great results. 😀 On a personal level, I sometimes have to pinch myself that I get to experience such great opportunities 😅 . Since joining CCG and being part of these great events, my career has developed well and I have also learnt so much from so many amazing people. One thing I can say this time round, the hospitality from our great hosts in Chennai, was unlike anything I have received before! I look forward to potentially visiting again in the future. ✈ I must say a huge thank you to Divya Subash Kumar and KURIAN JOSEPH for organizing a great event! Then I would also like to thank Balaji Lakshminarayanan for being a great co-trainer, along with Ashutosh Bhagurkar, who was part of the CLEWs cohort at EMP-G 2024 and has really shown his capabilities as modeller! 🏆 From the perspective of our Energy Modelling Community (EMC) it is great to see ex-participants excelling in the energy modelling field! ⚡ Fernando Plazas-Niño Fynn K.
