📝#FieldNotes: It’s estimated that as much as 9% of all carbon emissions worldwide come from concrete production. A common component of transportation development, the impact of concrete (among other materials) can now be limited with the emergence of more sustainable alternatives. Featuring transportation design led by Kevin Dooley, PE, ENV SP, the approach to multimodal improvements along the Laporte Avenue Corridor project with the City of Fort Collins provides an example of how to leverage these new materials. Read more about the project at otak.com: https://shorturl.at/Q0G6W “With more than 1,200 tons of recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) and the use of low-carbon concrete, the roadway and bridges along an improved Laporte Avenue Corridor are designed with a variety of sustainable strategies to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the project." Take a closer look at the design and construction behind these roadway and structural improvements, where a historic bridge railing, local art, and pedestrian safety all come together under a sustainable design. #RecycledAsphalt #RecycledAsphaltPavement #Multimodal #Sustainability

A long-standing goal became a career-defining accomplishment as our own Julia Dahlgren, PLA recently passed the Landscape Architect Registration Exams (LARE)! In earning the official Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) designation, Julia credits her support system while also recognizing the importance of representation in the field. “Everyone's licensing journey is different, but I personally benefitted from working on real-world projects before reaching the biggest accomplishment of my career so far… As a woman and Pacific Islander, it’s also important for me to provide representation, designing for our communities and nature while empowering others to join an industry that’s increasingly vital to the future.” With her sights set on this moment since graduating from the University of California, Davis, Julia’s family and fellow alumni have remained integral to her success. Her group of supporters helped by tailoring daily work to reflect material she would encounter on the exams, answering questions, and encouraging her to keep going when licensure felt distant. After lots of dedication and commitment, the goal has gone from distant to done. Congrats on the professional achievement Julia! #ProfessionalLandscapeArchitect #LARE #LandscapeArchitecture #ProfessionalDevelopment

PROJECT UPDATE: After navigating final design and financing details, construction on the new 48,892-square-foot Benton County Courthouse is set to begin! Our own Sheri Mishler and Shannon Ladner managed the project to this point in coordination with DLR Group (architect) and Hoffman Construction Company (general contractor), to replace the existing #courthouse for Benton County, Oregon. The original structure – completed in 1889 – is already preserved in the National Register of Historic Places and will be repurposed for future use based on public input.
After a delay of several months, construction of a new courthouse for Benton County is set to commence soon on land a bit north of downtown Corvallis.
